We need to move 3yo DD to a twin bed soon so that her crib can be used for LO2 arriving in May.
We're debating between:
Hemnes day bed from Ikea (http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/30080316/) and solid wood bed with drawers from a local retailer (http://www.bunkhousekids.com/product/Platform).
Pros to Hemnes:
Cheaper to begin with and on sale; has sides and a back which might feel more familiar to her; has the trundle and drawers. ETA: drawers are bigger than the other bed too.
Cons to Hemnes:
Particle board, need to store a second mattress to use the trundle, can really only be used with long side against the wall (not a problem now, but if we move, it might be nice to have options).
Pros to other option:
Solid wood, no headboard or footboard makes making the bed easy, can configure any way in a room.
Cons to other option:
Double the price, have to choose drawers or trundle.
I don't know that we would be moving it around the house much, but we probably will move to a different place at some point. We're in a two bedroom now. We would only buy a second mattress if we needed to use the pull out bed at some point. DH has already been looking into thinner mattresses that DD can used doubled up, but isn't happy with the options, so likely would just use it as a single 99% of the time.
