Over 8 hours away? While I would feel badly about it, I wouldn't want him to go. I don't think my DH would be able to enjoy himself under those circumstances anyways; he would be too nervous!

I wouldn't be thrilled if my husband went to a party 8 hours away when I was 38 weeks. I'm sure his friend would understand. Going 8 hours away is a lot to ask for a bachelor party anyways- expecting someone with a wife who is about to have a baby to go is too much, in my opinion.

@Bluebonnet: Threadjack: Please let this be me as far as a much earlier delivery with #2. We had to chase #1 out for 3 days and I really hope this one has different plans!

I would not be comfortable with it for baby #2. No way!!

My LO #2 was born at 38 weeks, so No way!

My LO2 was three weeks early, so I would say no! I had zero indications that she would be so early since I had a pretty normal and uneventful pregnancy.

It is somewhat annoying how some people just assume due date = the exact date baby will arrive. I was invited to my sister's surprise birthday party to occur at 38w but 650miles away. Her boyfriend seemed totally surprised when I declined... He even offered to move the party a week after my due date... Sorry buddy, even worse.

Nope. Dh has an overnight "in town" business thing at 38 weeks for me, but i wouldn't want him far away.

DH traveled to NYC at 38 weeks. But there are flights every hour pretty much, so I wasn't worried. But it was our first. My water broke at 39 weeks. So with #2, I won't let him travel at 38 weeks.

I would not be comfortable with this (and actually neither would DH, I don't' think he would want to go.)

My daughter (first child) was born 15 days early and it was only 4 hours from when I realized I was in labor until she was born (in retrospect, about 7 hours from first signs of labor) so there's no way I personally would be comfortable.

I would be too nervous to have him go. I had my first at 37 weeks and my second at 35 weeks. Sounds like he may be nervous about it too! You are an angel to even consider him going.

Yeah I would probably ask DH not to go. It would be one thing if it was only 2 hrs away, but 8 hrs is a lot!!!

It's funny b/c DH was invited to a golf weekend with my dad, brothers, and other guys probably around the same time frame and I was pushing him to go thinking that I was late with #1 and would probably be again. Plus, I have my mom to help me out as she's 5 minutes away and he'll only be a 3-4 hour car ride away. But he declined. Thinking back on it, I was probably being crazy and would not want him to go when the time came. So, a lot of words to say that 8 hours away does seem like too much and I don't blame you for thinking that's cutting it a bit too close.

I was induced at 37.5 with lo, so anything after 36 weeks seems like go-time to me and I don't think dh would want to be far away. But, if I didn't expect to go that early (I knew that there was a chance I'd be induced that early) and had a lot of support (like, someone to be with me in the hospital and someone to be with lo), I might be okay with it?

yeah, no way! I delivered my second at 38+2. haha. DH tried to go snowboarding for the day the week before I had her an hour away and I nixed it!

Ha. You COULD go early!! Sounds like you guys made a good call.

I went into labor at 39w4d, and had a 6 hour labor ... Next time, no one is going anywhere after 37 weeks.

@Mrs. Lovejoy: Glad he agrees! I'm with you on guys who don't have kids just thinking the due date is the due date. My DH plays guitar in a local band, and the singer (one of our close friends!) scheduled shows for the weekend before and the weekend after my due date, then didn't get why it would be an issue because, in his words, "You shouldn't be in labor or still in the hospital either of those days, right?" Two years later his wife was pregnant and he blocked off like two months that he didn't want to play just in case she needed him. Haha!

Aw, I wouldn't chance it.. Both my babies came at 38w
