I can't answer the other questions, but it was thought I had endometriosis a few years ago and I had a laparoscopy. It was the first time I was ever put under, so I was nervous, but it just seemed like I closed my eyes for a moment and then woke up!
The only painful thing after the procedure was that there were air "bubbles" that moved up to my collar bones and really hurt! Kind of bizarre, but they warned me it would probably happen.
I should note, though, that I didn't not end up having endometriosis and so they did not do any of the scraping...I would imagine that would change things post procedure.

@rainbowsprinkles: I had been experiencing pretty severe/debilitating pain, localized to one area in my abdomen. I have never been on BC so at first they put me on one to see if that would help, saying if the pain got better it was a good sign it was endometriosis. However, after one cycle, I had a severe pain episode and the doctor said the only way to know for sure was to do the laparoscopy. Later, I questioned that whole protocol and was told by a different doctor that he would've done things differently. It ended up taking about a year of seemingly unending testing (too many transvaginal ultrasounds to count, blood tests, a colonoscopy and an endoscopy) to discover I had what's known as an "occult hernia".
I sincerely hope an ultrasound helps to maybe skip the more invasive procedure! And hope even MORE that it's not endometriosis!

Symptoms: pain (Vicodin for cramps) very heavy periods, lasting all 7 days.

Treatment: two lap surgeries to clean up scar tissue, birth control back to back (period suppression) with six months of Lupron shots to freeze my reproductive cycle

My first lap was tough-an old guy did it without a laser and the recovery was tougher than it should have been. I woke up bruised on one side-the entire side of my body! Another RE I saw said they were probably rough with me because my recovery should not have taken as long as it did when I had it done again, my RE did it on a Friday and I was back at work on a Monday! Recovery was night and day!

I had no trouble conceiving. My issues are 100% unrelated to endo

I did have endometriosis, I started experiencing a lot of pain at 15, although my periods started at 11. Age 12, I had a horrendous period, which was very similar to the blood loss you get after having a baby. I was referred to a gynae aged 16 (things are done differently in the UK) who started me on various different pain relief and hormonal treatments.
I was eventually given Co-dydramol to help with the pain, and aged 18 I underwent a laparoscopy. They removed three pea-szed endo lumps (correct term?!?!) from by my cervix.
The laparoscopy was done under general anaesthetic, and I have three small cross shaped scars from the surgery; two on my bikini line and one in my belly button. The two on my bikini line have faded away and are almost flat due to pressure from clothes. The belly button one is still slightly raised, but hardly noticeable. In terms of after surgery pain, I was given the same prescription of Co-dydramol I had been taking normally! Although I didn't feel nearly as bad as for a normal period.
Having the lumps removed also helped my sex life, as their position was causing a lot of discomfort.
After surgery the pain lessened, although I still had some of the associated symptoms; fatigue, clotting issues.
I had then moved for university by this point was referred to a new gynae who happened to be a specialist in endometriosis. He then put me on Prostap which essentially put me through a chemical menopause aged 19, which was followed up by the Mirena coil. The Prostap injections were stopped after about 6 months, and I kept the coil in for the full 5 years.
The coil was removed 2 years ago and as my body does not like hormonal treatments I left it to find its rhythm again, ready for us to conceive.
Unfortunately, we have not conceived thus far and are starting on our journey with the Reproductive Clinic. However, early indications are that the challenges shall we say are with my husband and not me.

I had been on birth control since 15 for irregular periods but still had pain during sex. Finally around age 27 (in 2008) I asked the doctor about the pain and he thought it might be endo. Birth control is supposed to help reduce chances of endo or control it to some degree but mine was not so I elected for the surgery. It was a simple out patient procedure that only took a couple of hours. They put me under and went in thru my belly button and slightly above my pelvic bone. There were several groupings that they removed with the laser. The only discomfort was the gas bubbles (they fill you with gas so that they can see better during the surgery) releasing but it gets work out in a day!

I think that some of the growths have come back because of some pain again during sex,. That being said I had no problem conceiving and having a great delivery and healthy baby. I will probably wait to get a second endo surgery until after I have another child sometime in the future.
