Dd turns one in a couple of weeks and I've been struggling with what to get her. She really and truly doesn't need anything - plus I am weary at the thought of the amount of gifts she will get from family and friends. Everyone keeps asking me what we are getting LO, expecting me to have some elaborate plan but I've got nothing.

I was thinking instead of just making a contribution to her RESP (education fund). Is that lame? Most parents I know get their child some sort of keepsake for their first birthday but we are limited on space and I don't even know what I'd get. The practical side of me says of course she doesn't need a gift - she's one and won't even know the difference! But the sentimental side of me says that when she's older she might appreciate a little gift that we bought special for her on her first bday.

So - Is an education fund contribution lame or should I buy my daughter a physical object for her first bday?
