My niece turns 21 today - happy Birthday C!!!
I asked her if she was going to have an official drink and she told me no, she doesn't drink.
But, but .... your legal - you have too!!

I was in college and did a few keg stands to mark the occasion!

Yes, yes I did. I was finally old enough to *legally* order a drink, so I did. I didn't get drunk, but I did drink

Yes. It was sangria and it was delicious. Then I got into a fight with my now husband because he doesn't like it when I drink.

My "get drunk" days were behind me by this point, but I definitely celebrated being able to legally buy my own alcohol. I had a birthday party and bought two cases when I turned 21 at midnight (Because the keg ran out). On my birthday, later in the day, my parents came up to celebrate, so we went out to eat and I ordered my first beer at a restaurant!

Not really. I wasn't a huge drinker in college, and my 21st birthday ended up being the day of my grandfather's funeral. Major let down there! My cousin did send me to pick up wine coolers on my way from the funeral to their house (just to say I purchased alcohol) but I wasn't even carded.

Nope. I moved that day and was so exhausted by the end of the day I just wanted to fall into bed and go to sleep. Lame!

Yep. My family took me out to dinner and I had a margarita. They threw me a party the weekend after and there were lots of drinks. I never thought I'd play beer pong with my mom.

I had 21 drinks, which was the popular things for my friends to do around that time. I started first thing in the morning and spaced it out.
I had been drinking for about 8 years by that point so it was farrrr from my first drink.
@mediagirl: same! I had been using various id's throughout the end of high school and college.

I had a daquiri at dinner, and some crappy stuff like mike's hard lemonade (which I thought was good) later. I was not a heavy drinker at that time, so looking back I'm really embarrassed by how drunk I got on less than a 6 pack of those things!

No, I was camping at the beach with DH for my 21st birthday, we were dating at the time. The place we were camping was a state park, and did not allow alcoholic beverages. We went out for a beer when we got back to town.

Nope. My Friends threw me a surprise party but we were attending a conservative Christian university that had a pretty strict stance on alcohol. We did have a piñata, though!

Yes, I was studying abroad in Paris at the time though and no one could "get" why it was a big deal to turn 21! For them it's like any other birthday...

No, as I was alone in a foreign country for my 21st. However, the legal age is 18 here and I believe I drank like a fish on that birthday!

@Mamaof2: I absolutely had a drink... I had several before and after haha. I'm in Canada so the 'big' birthday here is 19.
For my 19th a bunch of us went out for supper and bar hopped all night, it was great!

@hotchildinthecity: I did this too, marked in sharpie on my arm to keep track, I had 24 hours to do it. Ha. Yikes, I would die if I did that now. And also similarly, had been drinking since about 16/17.

I had my birthday beer at the bar on campus. They know when you're birthday is, the joys of a small school. It was a quiet night, there had just been a bad accident on campus and a death. It was not my first drink and I really want in the mood. But it was nice to drink my new castle and have a chat.

Well I had been legally allowed to drink for 2 years already so it wasn't a big deal, but I went to my local pub with some friends and drank litre beers all night. It wasn't pretty.

I did have a glass of pink champagne. By that time I had already had my sisters fake ID so I wasn't that excited. My 21st birthday was the day before my cousins wedding so we were staying with my grandparents...not a great party crowd. I also had a glass of wine at the wedding but the bartender didn't even card me!

I'm so old that I can't remember! I kinda remember going to Nobu for my bday so I probably did. Not that it was my first drink anyway!

Um.... Yes. In my college town, it was a tradition for all the bars (and random ppl at the bars) to give you shots of jäger on your 21st. I had sooo many of those. Yikes.
After the bars closed at 2, we went to a random house party till 4 and when my friends dragged me out, I spotted a trampoline in someone's yard and climbed their fence in my dress to jump on it.
Some guys lived there and all came outside to watch me jumping on their trampoline. I ended up using their toilet, haha. And many many years later, my friend had a work colleague that told a "hilariously weird story" of the time some girl climbed her fiancés fence and jumped on his trampoline at 4 in the morning. Oops?

No. I had the flu and we sat around playing Apples to Apples in my friend's living room.
I totally made up for it on my 22nd. I dont even remember it. lol
