I was looking up my insurance info online and it says that they need to be notified about pregnancies and births asap. I never notified them directly about my pregnancy but they I assume they are aware of it since they have covered all the prenatal visits, ultrasounds and lab work. I only paid the copay for the first OB visit. Do I still need to notify them?

I don't remember telling them about the pregnancy but they did have to pre-approve the birth I think. I remember either my doctor or the hospital giving me a form to fill out for that.

My OB notified them and that is when I no longer had to pay co-pays because all my prenatal stuff was covered under my current insurance plan. My online insurance profile shows my confirmed pregnancy date and that was sufficient for me. If you are unsure, just give them a call so you have all of your bases covered.

i didn't notify them of my pregnancy - they should know! but i will notify them of the births, so i can add my babies to the plan.

No, they got notified by the OB once the bills started coming in to them. We will notify them of the birth to add the baby to our insurance.

Same as above, I don't need to directly notify of pregnancy but must notify of birth within 30 days to add the baby onto insurance.

I will be notifying my insurance directly. They have something called a "healthy babies" program and if I notify them within the first 14 weeks of pregnancy I get up to $600 back in any out of pocket costs relating to prenatal care.

o, btw, my insurance definitely knows about the pregnancy. they have this women's wellness program or something to help ensure safe pregnancy and contacted me about it.

I never did, but my OB's office did...and a few weeks into the 2nd trimester for both pregnancies, my insurance company contacted me to ask me how the pregnancy was going, and to offer to enroll me in their pregnancy wellness program. They continued to call every few months to make sure both me and the babies were doing well — I guess this is in their best interest too, since they would need to pay more if something were to go wrong. I personally had no problems with this, because they sent me a bunch of free stuff and also gave me access to a 24-hr nurse hotline!

I let my insurance company know because they assigned a nurse to me that called me monthly and then in the end I got a free hospital grade breast pump from them and some other stuff.

We did, well actually my husband did. My OB had to "announce" me at the hospital where I was going to deliver, as the insurance I had covered my delivery in a hospital in one county, not where my doc had rights to deliver. But that didn't end up mattering anyway, because the midwives that staffed the hospital delivered my LO.

I didn't notify them, but they do know due to the OB appointments and I've gotten things in the mail from them offering pre-natal support. I do know I have to notify them of the birth within 30 days to cover LO, though.

It depends on your health insurance plan. Most companies just find out from your doctor, but my OB told me that my company is one of the ones that requires that I officially call and notify them. I'm not sure why that is. And I know that they would still cover the pregnancy if I didn't notify them. BUT I'm sure there is some sort of reason for it. Since my OB told me that my insurance company requires it, I'm going to go ahead and do it. (I forgot till I saw this post!) I will let you know what they say.

As it turns out I didnt need to notify them because I received a maternity package from them over the weekend. My OB had already notified them on behalf!

I didn't notify anyone, and I changed insurances halfway through - lol maybe I should read my fine print! But they covered my very, very expensive hospital stay so I take it they were ok with it
