I thought my GE dryer was still covered but I was wrong....I only purchased an extended plan for my refrigerator!

I've never purchased extended warranties. I dont think they actually cover long enough for when produce really start to break down. And for the cost of the warranties I've seen, I'll take my chances.

For the most part yes. Also depending on where I get it, Sears has an AMAZING lifetime warranty.

I did twice but both times because I was coaxed into it. Never used either.

We bought a 5 year plan for our washer and dryers. We didn't buy an extended warranty for the A/C.

We bought all new kitchen appliances and got a 5 year plan. Appliances seem to break all the time on us so we wanted the reassurance. It was only a few hundred dollars. If we sell our house it can be transferred to the new owners so that's a nice thing too.

We got a 10 year plan for our kitchen appliances which has been worthwhile. The refrigerator turned out to have a notorious defect that caused leaks onto the floor and the retailer is helping us make a claim to get reimbursed because our wood floor was damaged.

Only on my vacuum, because I assumed that using it often on so much dog hair might make it break down sooner.

We did for our fridge since our last one broke 6 weeks after buying it! There was no warrenty either.

I got one for our dishwasher, and I'm really glad I did. Saved me 900 bucks.

@HLK208: Same thing happened to us but it was only 3 days after delivery. Luckily, it was still under the store's return policy. When we got the next one, we bought the extended warranty and we've already had the new one serviced twice. Grr!

Right now all of our appliances have them because at the time of purchase I worked for the store and got an insane discount. Otherwise it depends on what the appliance is and what the extended warranty covers. Like, if they're not going to cover normal wear and tear then no way will I purchase it. Plus, working at a store that sells appliances gave me a better feel for what items tend to break more often - we got a lot more service calls on washers and dryers than we did on stoves or refrigerators, for example.
