I am a gift card snob and I like it when people go to the actual store and buy a hard copy.
I have no idea why but I don't like gift cards that you can buy at the grocery store, emailed codes, etc.
I have totally lagged on holiday shopping this year and I will probably give my family gift cards in the formats that I hate...lol.

I can't get our printer to work half the time, so I do prefer an actual card, but I'll take whatever! Luckily most places will send an actual card these days.

When I give gift cards to people, I tend to go to the store and not the grocery (unless I'm totally behind on my errands and must... but that's pretty rare).
If I'm the one getting the gift card, I don't care where they got it or if it's emailed!

@sunny: Yes, the format is a little different! The paper backing usually says the amount on it.

Grocery Store Cards suck because they actually charge the recipient a fee that gets continually deducted if they don't use it from the value of the card.
I love getting Amazon GCs and those are always mailed or emailed.

Doesn't matter to me! Not all grocery store cards get charged a fee, for the record--it depends on where the gift card is to. I like any gift cards...even ones I know are rewards from a credit card (my mom does that all the time!)

I've never had a grocery store card charge a fee. I buy them there because I get fuel points for cheaper gas.
