We recently had a neighbor move in across the street and the little boy has the exact same name as our LO. Our name isn't that common, Brennan it's 229 according to the baby center website. I personally don't care because the other Brennan is older than our LO so they won't be in the same grade. DH now refers to our neighbor's child as the "fake" Brennan. So, question, do you care if other kids have the same name as your LO?

I like to pretend that it doesn't bother me, but sometimes when I hear someone say that their LO has my LO's name, I get all "Pfft, that's my name not yours!" on the inside

I remember in school and there were like 5 Mike's in every class. I kind of wonder if they cared or not that so many boys had the same name.

As long as they aren't one of several kids with the same name in every class I think it's ok. Like mikes, Jennifer's, etc in the 80s. That said I probably would be like your husband and be all, oh OUR Brennan is better.

I'm somewhat surprised that I never see it on personalized items in the store and I guess that's kind of cool.My brother Noah was the only Noah I ever knew growing up, people thought it was a weird name. And now it's in the Top 10!

We didn't want him to have the same name as anyone we know and also didn't want him to have a common name that several classmates would also have. The name we chose was about 300 in terms of popularity.

I've never met another Ariela in the places we've lived. But one of my SIL's friends is pregnant and when she heard we'd called A that she put it on her shortlist and I'll admit I don't like that.... Not that we have any claim on a name!

No, both names we picked have been on the top 100 list since its inception... Which is why we like those names. We wanted classic, timeless names. And they're both very strong Catholic names!

What does bother me is when people just assume that DD's name (which is pretty uncommon) is actually a different, more common, similar sounding name. I want to tell people to listen. while. I. enunciate. It drives me crazy when I tell someone her name and they say, "Oh, my friend/relative/dog's name is (similar sounding name)." Listen more carefully people!

No, not at all. We actually met a baby at the US embassy, when we were registering her birth, who had the same first and middle name as our LO. We all thought it was pretty incredible since the first name is Japanese and middle name is American and we happened to be there on the same day. We still keep in touch with them.

If they are already named that I don't care, but if its someone I know and they chose our LOs name I would probably be a little upset.
@mrs pen: my high school bf was named your LO's name but with a "Y" never met anyone spelled with an "I" it's unique!

One of my friends told me he knew someone that had the same first name and last name as DS (Our last name is SUPER common). -
If we have a boy he'll be named after my dad who passed away 6 years ago. I've met LO's with his name while TTC etc., and for some reason OUR LO's name will feel different because it's after my dad. Is that crazy sounding? For some reason it feels different! Like, oh that LO's name is David, but our LO's name is David after my dad..... I'm delusional...

Yes and no. I wouldn't want to name my kid the most popular name on the list, but we also don't want a 'weird' name that they'll have to spell all the time or will be constantly mispronounced (I already possess a name like that, plus our last name is also difficult to spell/say).

No, LO name is pretty common, so it wouldn't bother me at all. Although it's uncommon where we live so I'd be pretty surprised to have a neighbor with the same name.

I don't know if it would bother me. I think only someone using it after knowing we named our daughter it, but not just running into another girl with the same name. Our name hasn't been in the top 1000 on ssa since 2001.. so it would be interesting to run into someone her age with it as well.

No, not if it's other people that I don't even know. If it was a close friend's baby or a family member's baby, then yes...it would probably bother me a little.

Nope doesn't bother me at all. We choose their names for a reason and it wasn't so that no one else would would have it. They were named after family and they are pretty common names. My sons names are James joe and nick so I am pretty sure they are not "my" names. My daughters name is Lilliana which I thought was more unique and there is another Lilliana in my moms group who is 1 month younger than my daughter. It still doesn't bother me.

No. I kind of get sad that LO's name isn't popular. It makes me feel like people don't like it. It's actually pretty popular for a middle name now.... but I'm like why isn't it good enough for a first name?!

I am going to guess I'll be a little bummed by that when the time comes. Simply bc I had a super common name growing up and I hated always being one of many. I never had a class where there wasn't 1-3 other girls with my name - kind of makes you feel very unspecial ahha
