The only beverages I drink are pretty much coffee, tea, water and carbonated water. But we're creating so much waste with the cans of carbonated water, and we drink a lot of it! Plus we don't have a car so I have to carry a big case home every time.
So I'm thinking maybe we should finally take the plunge and buy a soda stream. Do you have one? Do you love it?

Yes! I love it because I drink a ton of carbonated water. Ever since I got pregnant, still water makes me nauseous.
The only thing I don't love about it it having to pick up new CO2 tanks at Target. They are only $15 when you trade in your old one, but there's basically no warning when it runs out. Sometimes it takes me a few days to make it over to Target, depending on how busy I am. I suppose I could buy an extra tank, but that's $30.

We love ours! But like @macintosh: said, we can be lazy about exchanging our tank.
I also love how most of the flavored sodas are made with real sugar and not high fructose corn syrup. It probably makes no difference but it makes me feel better!

I love it! Is convenient and less waste. I'm pretty good about exchanging the co2 tanks so no complaints from me.

Yep! I love ours. We almost never flavor the water, just drink it fizzy (or sometimes add lime or lemon). We only have to replace the tank every couple of months (we don't use it every day), so it's generally pretty easy to do!

We almost bought one, but my neighbor told me the tap water was wrecking the machine and making the soda taste funny, so they were having to buy distilled. For us, this negates the purpose - if I'm going to pay to get water delivered, rent a zipcar to stock up, or haul it myself, I might as well just buy sparkling water.

My mom has one and I like to just make them flavored with orange or lemon lime.

@Ash: True, but the ingredient list is at least somewhat more simple than ready made sodas. We usually make our own ginger syrup or use plain lemon juice. I do crave a sugary orange soda now and again, though!

Yesss we love ours. Constantly have 3 bottles of soda water in the fridge. You do kinda know when the gas is about to run out though, it makes a funny noise, less gassy for a little while.

@Espion: it's probably not a problem for everyone - the houses on our block are about 120 yrs old, so pipes may be what's altering the taste of perfectly good NYC tap water! I think he's also really picky judging from his industrial espresso machine!!

We finally got one and it has been a lifechanger. I realized quickly that my diet coke addiction is actually just a carbonation addiction so I drink FAR less soda. It's so freeing to be able to pass right by the soda aisle at the grocery store. It makes my grocery load so much lighter, not to mention our garbage/recycling!! I've tried all the sample flavors the sodastream came with but so far I like it plain the best!
We have a water filter in our fridge dispenser so we keep a big pitcher of water chilling all the time. Makes for quick sodastream and keurig refilling.
I got the LX model which has a CO2 canister twice the size of the regular ones, but it's been discontinued and the seller we bought it from on Amazon has been basically blacklisted by sodastream and they won't honor the warranty if you bought it from that seller. But the seller sent us a new one when ours stopped working and that one is going ok so far. They offered us a replacement or a refund, and we asked if we could take a replacement and if that failed, if we could get a refund then, and they said yes. So now we have six bottles and more sample flavors... if it dies then we'll get a refund and buy the model that costco sells.

Oh also I heard you can hack the canister to refill it for much cheaper. It's just CO2 so you can purchase some sort of adapter to fill it with anything (or go anywhere) you can refill paintball guns with.

@mrs. wagon: I just make a simple syrup (technically 1 part sugar, 1 part water, but you can use less sugar) and add an obscene amount of ginger! I often boil the ginger w/ the sugar water until the sugar dissolves, then let the ginger steep. I strain it, then add it to carbonated water, to taste. I love ginger with a lot of bite, though!

@PinkElephant: I think you are supposed to use filtered water anyway. We just have a Mavea filter in our fridge we fill it from.

We just got one and really like it so far but we are on our first full canister still. We will use it for seltzer way more than flavored soda.
Anyone know if you can use bed bath and beyond coupons for the co2 refills?

I'm obsessed. We have the Source and love it!!! It's been over a year. It paid for itself after I stopped buying at Costco within a few months. I have to refill the cartridge every few months. I make about 64 oz a day and only make sparkling water.

Have it, love it! Ill add that it is great for entertaining and parties, everyone can have whatever soda they like and I'm not stuck with a million half empty 2 liter bottles crowding my fridge for the next week!

Have it, my husband is the carbonated water drinker in the family. It's been collecting dust ever since the stevia sweetened sodas have come out. Once they develop the syrup, I suspect he'll be on that bandwagon.

I love ours, too! I end up drinking so much more water than I would if it were flat water or even seltzer that I'd bought. I also use it to water down juices, so my sugar intake has also decreased a lot! I made an egg cream a few weeks ago which was amaazing. So much you can do with the soda stream!

Have had one for a couple of years now. We use it all the time, and I am so glad not to drag home heavy bottles anymore. My husband drinks nothing but seltzer, so I'm sure we've saved a lot of money also.

We do. I just use it for carbonated water occasionally, we like ours.
