How many pumps do you use to make it fizzy and do you always hear the "click"
The 1st time I tried it it took 3 pumps and then it clicked and it was nice and fizzy.
The 2nd time it took 4 pumps to hear the click
The 3rd time I never heard the click and stopped after 6 pumps.
WTH? Why is it different every time? Is it defective?

I have to pump between 8 and 10 times. Always have. My pumps usually last 4-5 months, so that doesn't seem bad to me. Right now it is running out, so I had to pump 15ish times last night. One for a refill!

Usually. Though occasionally I stop earlier when I can tell it's fizzy enough for me.

@Jess1483: ok one more question - how can you tell its fizzy enough by looking at it?

Huh. Good question. I guess I got a feel for it after I used it a couple times, but it's probably mostly the concentration of bubbles around the outside.

are you locking it in properly? seems like such a silly question, but sometimes my DH doesn't twist and lock in the bottle tight enough so the CO2 leaches out and takes more pumps to get it fizzy. For me, more than 3 pumps means explosion waiting to happen

Maybe I have an older model (it's 3 yrs old) but mine doesn't click. I just hold the button down until I hear it sort of buzz and do that 3 times. It's always super fizzy, unless the tank is running low.

@MUI831: actually i think you and I have the "older version" because mine's from a few years back. I'm the same way, I twist and lock then press the top button thing down 3 times. Plenty fizzy and should I dare to pump again, usually that means an explosion when I unlock the bottle.

@MUI831: @aegie: same! If I try to pump more than 3 or 4 times I actually feel some resistance and it'll be too fizzy. No clicking though!

I have the penguin and just hold down the lever until I hear that it is done. The penguin doesn't make a clicking sound though, it kind of whistles at the end.
