At the moment, we don't have cable. (We just 'suspended' it for the next 3 months.) When I was growing up, sometimes we would have cable and sometimes we wouldn't. I'm going to say that for most of my childhood, we did not have cable.
We did have basic channels which I good enough for me.

We hardly watch tv so I often think about canceling cable. I'd much rather pay per episode because that's cheaper than what we're paying for cable.

We don't have cable because we found that we were planting ourselves on the couch every night in front of the tv. We decided that we didn't want that distraction in our marriage and now that we have our daughter, I am so glad we don't waste the $120 a month on it.
I also never had cable growing up. But I always wished we did.

We both had cable growing up and we have cable now. We "need" it since DH is obsessed with watching sports!

Since we got married, we go back and forth between just having the major networks (like 15 channels) and an expanded plan, but have never paid more than like $30/month when we have it.
Growing up we had some limited family type cable, just so we could have the Disney channel and I wouldn't wake my parents up in the morning.

We do not have it. We have an antenna to get basic channels. It works for us. Cable got too expensive!!

Yes, but we don't watch a ton of tv, its usually on for background noise or if there is something sports related on. We have the basic channels, nothing fancy. I do like having "In Demand" available so I can watch something later on if I want.
Growing up we lived so far out of town that we didn't even basic channels until I was about 8 or 9.

I never had it growing up, but it is a necessity of life for my husband right up there with food and shelter, so we have satellite with all the bells and whistles.

We don't have cable. We got rid of it almost a year ago and just watch shows on Huluplus/Netflix or on DVD. We don't even have basic channels. Growing up we didn't have cable for most of my childhood. I didn't really care because I would watch shows at friend's houses. We most likely won't have cable when our kids are growing up!

When I was little, we had basic cable. We weren't allowed to watch TV during the day though.
We don't have cable now. We can't even pick up local channels, which sucks because we can't even get the local news 
We just have Netflix.

We have cable now, but only because it's included with our rent. We don't watch TV at all, though--just Netflix.
Growing up, we got cable when I was in elementary school. I was so excited! I vividly remember watching Nickelodeon and the Disney Channel with glee.

We have cable now, but there was no such thing as cable when I was growing up. It didn't come about til I was in junior high, and then it wasn't available in all areas. BUT, I did get to see the launch of MTV and the first video played (Video killed the Radio star). Now that is history, LOL.

We had basic cable growing up. Now we have "premium" (?) cable - like 200+ channels and HBO. I wish we could just pay for the channels we really watch instead of having so many we'll never watch.

We have cable now and I've have it for years through college, single life, dating, etc. When we were growing up we didn't have cable until almost high school? I was always jealous in elementary school when kids would talk about the cool "SNICK" shows.

Never had it growing up, parents thought it was stupid for anyone to pay for extra channels on tv. I think that's why I loved when we would go to Atlantic city for the weekend! we get to watch cable tv there!

We haven't had cable since getting married. Both of us grew up on the poorer side so we rarely had cable growing up. We learned a trick though. We bought this antenna cable for our flat screen...it might be called hdmi but I don't know. It was $40 and it allows us to get the main channels and a few more...with no ongoing monthly cost.

Growing up I did not, heck my parents STILL dont have it. DH and I do though. I am a History, Nat geo, Animal planet junkie. I only really "want" it for those chanels.

We have cable but only because my husband LOVES to watch ESPN. Before we moved in together, I didn't have it. I didn't have it growing up either though sporadically once I moved out of the house. I honestly wouldn't miss it if we didn't have it.

We had satelite growing up but now Hubs and I survive with just the internet, not cable or anything. I think we are happier for it.
