So I'm probably late to the game, but I'm looking for ways to save more money this year. I'm thinking of cutting cable, and just subscribe to Netflix and Hulu.
How do you watch regular news? Did you need to buy a digital antenna?

We have some kind of an antenna; DH bought it. Otherwise, we stick to local TV for the news, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon prime (we got it for the shopping, the streaming was just a plus).
Hulu has Daily Show with Trevor Noah, which we enjoy.

Our TV scan for over the air channels, and we get about 5 without an antenna. We added a simple coaxial antenna cable (we had this in a box in our garage) that connects to outside where an antenna would plug in, and added another coaxial cable outside. But it is not connected... It just dangles slightly off our balcony of our condo. The metal tip of that cable adds another 35 channels over the air, for 40 free channels. We also have Netflix and Amazon Prime. No antenna needed!

We just cancelled our cable and we're using PlayStation Vue (basically streaming live TV). We still get all the channels we normally watched and it's $40/month.

We have PlayStation Vue, Netflix, and Amazon Prime. We really like PlayStation Vue. We get a couple of local channels through it plus all of the other channels that we normally watch. It also has a cloud based DVR function, and a lot of on demand shows. We don't miss cable at all.

I loved having PlayStation Vue. But we couldn't watch our local football team on with it. Which I'm fine with but it annoyed DH. He got a new job that has him home more often, and he couldn't hang. So we're back on Directtv. But it bums me out.

We don't watch the news! I might listen to it on the radio in my car, but not at home, ever.
We have netflix and amazon video via prime. It's more than enough for our needs. And not to mention you tube.

I'm looking into (have been for months) cutting cable and considering sling tv.

We've had Sling (the most basic package) for 4-5 months now and that Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime (all of which had before anyway) cover all our needs.
We got a free Roku 2 when we signed up for Sling and find it easier to use then our Amazon Fire TV (which we will ultimately use with a secondary TV when we set one up).
We do have an antenna for local channels but almost never watch them.
No regrets

@DisneyBee: we have Apple TV with Hulu Netflix and NHL TV. Amazon Prime on our laptops and devices. We just read the local news online or listen to NPR on our drives if we want to hear the news but honestly I prefer just scanning the headlines online if I want to know what's going on. We haven't had cable in 5 years and the only time we really get annoyed by it is like the Olympics or something. DH offered to get cable for those times but I just told him not to bother. We just don't have that much time to watch tv with kids anyway.

We cut cable and don't miss it! We already had Netflix and Amazon Prime, but added in Hulu and watch some stuff on YouTube and it's great! We watch local news with a cheapo antennae that gets us about 10 free channels.
