Spin off of the holiday dishes thread...we use melamine for everyday, because my son likes to load the dishwasher and sometimes, we have "tile, meet dish" situations.
I have 8 place settings of this for grown up dinners, I never got china when we were married, it was my housewarming/birthday/anniversary/christmas gift last year:
eta: we have no nice wineglasses either, lol. Maybe next year.

Technically, my every day dinnerware is bone china. It's not "fancy" or super nice, but it is china!
I did buy some Lenox china at a thrift store...an older discontinued version but we never use it.

No, not really. I should get some melamine...that's a good idea! We have a couple of sets from before we were married that we use on an everyday basis. We have these from Crate & Barrel for when we have guests over. We don't have nor do we plan to get china because I just don't see the point...it'll never get used & I'd be terrified of breaking something.

No, we use Mikasa green/gray dishes every day. I never got China, never saw the need for it. I have my grandmother's silver that she gave me as a wedding gift, but I've never used it.

@looch: we have Denby Halo stoneware for every day, and Lenox "Simply Fine" Flourish bone china for nicer dishes. The bone china is dishwasher / microwave / freezer safe, which I love.

I have china but we don't use it everyday and I don't think I ever would. I know it's meant to be pretty durable but the thought of it breaking is no fun!

We have Crate and Barrel dishes for everyday that we got for a wedding gift. I was gifted my Gram's china when she passed away. I use that at holiday time only. It's from somewhere over seas during the war, my Grandpa brought it home with him.

I have a set of china from my wedding, but it's nothing special. We use Ikea dishes every single day. Actually, I feed my cats soft food on the china plate (the small ones that go with the coffee cups).

I only have it because I inherited half my grandmother's collection (and I think she got it from her aunt).
I registered for some coordinating lenox dishes for our wedding to round out the set because I knew I'd never buy any myself. We've been married 2 years, and have used it for one thanksgiving. It was fun to get it out and get to use it though!

We use plain-ol' white corelle dishes everyday. I inherited my grandmother's wedding china from the 1930s when she passed away, but I've never used it. I'm too scared of breaking something!!!

We use Fiestaware for everyday (LOVE them!) but we also have these for our "fancier" dishes. They're bone china but still pretty low-key, from Crate and Barrel. I rarely get them out, but am hoping to use them for Christmas this year!

We have our wedding china in 2 big boxes in a closet. Used once in three years of marriage. Total waste of money and space.

Nope. Our everyday dishes are the ones @lawbee11: showed. I have no interest in china, since I have no where to store it. I will get my great-grandma's china one day, when my Mom passes it on to me.

@Smurfette: I didn't know you have the same ones! We used to use them as our everyday dishes as well but DH has butter fingers so after breaking a few plates and having to replace them we use our mismatched pre-wedding dishes now.

@lawbee11: DH cramps so much in the dishwasher, we have like 3 plates with chips and one we had to throw away cause it has a crack all the way done it. So I need to buy some new ones.

i didn't want multiple sets of dishes, i wanted something simple we could use everyday, but could also be dressed up for nicer meals. went with bone china because my ceramic set from crate & barrel was a nightmare, all the glaze cracked and they chipped easily. mr. bird was the one that actually picked them when we were registering, i like them though.

Yes. I have some china that was my grandmothers. It's white with a plain platinum band around the edge.

@mrs. wagon: SAME HERE! My MIL tried to get me to get something much fancier...but, you can't go wrong with pretty, white, dishwasher-safe china if you ask me. It's a great mix of dainty and usable, I think.

@mfa_lady: yes!! We also use the serving bowl and platter several times a week. The plain white goes with everything! I told Wagon Sr. that I'll buy platinum-lined place settings all in one shot when the president or queen come for dinner.

We didn't register for china because I didn't think we'd use them. But then we saw some china in a thrift shop and ended up buying it. It barely gets used. But it looks nice in the glass cabinets in our kitchen.

We have two sets of dishes, the first for every day and the second is our wedding china. I LOVE our wedding china. We use it to entertain, for special occasions, and for Sunday dinners. It wasn't cheap, so I want to make sure we use it enough to be worth it. DD helps with the first set in the dishwasher but not china cleanup.

We have the Aspen pattern for our everyday China. And the Audrey pattern (now discontinued) for our formal China. Both are from C&B at least with our everyday we can easily get replacements to replace chipped dishes. Both are from our wedding registry 8 years ago and have held up really well.

My parents have all the nice dishes, because they've got closets to keep them. We don't have room, so we keep the fancy stuff to a minimum. The everyday dishes are this gorgeous Cape Cod set with seashells though

I have a vintage set of Noritake "Stella" china from 1968, back when Noritake was still manufactured in Japan. I do break it out for holidays. It's a really cute, mod-60's pattern but it's all white with just small silver accents so it still looks modern. I love it.

We have fancy china for special occasions. Growing up I always admired my mom's china and thought it made holiday dinners extra special, so I registered for it when we got married.

I feel over run with dishes!
I have a plain white stone ware set that DH and I used everyday for over a decade. It's now replaced by a Corelle set that is more child friendly.
I also have 2 sets of china. Royal Albert old country roses from my grandmother and Lennox chirp which I looove.

Yes- we use pottery barn white plain, regular dishes for every day meals and then I have a set of china I inherited and LO has a set of china she inherited. LO’s china is the one we use most often for special dinners and holidays; it was a wedding gift to my husband’s grandparents when they got married in the early 1930’s. It’s a lovely pattern.

We use Ikea dishes everyday and we have a nicer set we got as wedding gifts. Unfortunately they are a PITA to clean because they are handwash only so we hardly use them

My only regret is that we didn't go with plain white, but they have help up perfectly over the last 5 years. Not a single chip and we are not careful people. If we had fine china, we would never use it, so I like that we have good quality everyday dishes.

I have everyday dishes in white. The only special dishes are my glass teapot (because I use that everyday and love seeing the color) and some nicer little dessert dishes, just because I found them cute and love the size.
I didn't want a whole set of special dishes because of all the storage space they would require.

@sunny: haha...I still put my china in the dishwasher, on the "china" setting (my dishwasher has one, hurray!).
