I grew up in Los Angeles which is pretty much a big suburb. You have to drive everywhere. Even though we lived 2 blocks from the market, we almost always drove (walking doesn't even occur to you).

Now that I live in New York and am carless, I walk everywhere. I love that I know so many local shop owners and neighbors. I think that a walking city is great for small children because everything -- playgrounds, classes, parks museums, playspaces, playdates... are all just a short walk away. But I would love to have more space when our kids are older (and a car.. I love driving!).

Do you live in a walking city? Do you prefer walking cities or driving cities?
