Ugh -its my pet peeve!!!
A friend's sister had a baby yesterday and I have been getting all the replies - a billion yesterday - then one at 10pm - one at 2am - one at 6am - so freaking annoying!!!
I have group messaging off so while I can send a group message no one but me sees the reply!

@Mamaof2: If you're on iOS8, you can put a Do Not Disturb on a single group text conversation!

I hate that! Holiday ones are the worst, I really don't need to read 75 people responding to, 'Merry Christmas!' I do use them for convos where everyone should see all the msgs, like if I'm talking with my bosses, I think it's helpful if we're all on the same page with things, or if making plans with friends.

We just all have an app called groupme. So I guess it's like a group messenger chat room? I hate the group txts because it doesn't send every message to those without iphones so not everyone gets the messages and it turns into a mess.

We have a family group chat for my parents/sister/hubs and I. It's handy for sharing info, but a 75 person random msg would drive me bonkers

Usually just for making plans. I don't think I have ever used a group text for a conversation.

We use group chat for small groupings. Never for announcing new babies tho.

I have an ongoing group text with my 3 closest girlfriends. It's a nice way to feel involved in the small parts of each other's lives even though we don't see each other regularly. Plus it's good for laughs/distraction on slow work days!
I also group text from time to time with my brother/SIL or my parents. But never just a big group of people like you described. I agree, that gets annoying.

Yup, but if I do it, I do it with people I know and know each other. Like I have a group siblings text.
I have been on group texts where I get random texts from an unknown person. I do wish people would copy and paste their message to send 'group' messages to individual person. I just think that it doesn't bother them or they just don't realize that everyone in the group text will get everyone's response.

My MIL is a huge offender of group text etiquette. She group texts both her friends and family in one text and I end up getting texts for the next few days from people I don't know. I don't have iOS8 (I've been told not to upgrade because my phone is old) so I can't hide it either.

Depends on the circumstance, i usually send a group text to people who are in the same "group" so my BFF have a group text, my mom/sister, ect. As for when we have the baby i will turn it off.

With Android (or maybe it's just a Samsung thing) you can choose to send group messages as a true group message (so all replies are replies to all) or as individual messages (so all replies just come back to me). I pick and choose how I want to send group messages, but typically I send them out individually. I cannot stand group replies, especially when a bunch of the responses are from people I don't even know!

In the dark ages before I had my Iphone I was sooooo confused by this feature b/c you'd receive everything as an individual text sometimes from numbers you don't recognize. The one time I randomly got a text that said "had a great time love you!" from a number I didn't know and was SO CONFUSED. It wound up being my friends father in law replying to a rather old group text.
Anyway, I use them within the same social circle, not something like what you described!

My mom, sister and I group text all day long! Yesterday my sister sent a text to both my parents, my younger siblings and I and we started group texting like usual. My dad finally had to tell us to start a new text thread because he couldn't get any work done. Oops!

I only use it for small groups like 3-4 people for making group plans and such but I have one friend who I guess has it turned off because her replies will only go to the original sender and it drives me nuts! I get how annoying it must be to be in on a mass group text, but when you're trying to coordinate with a few people and one person won't reply to the group it makes the conversation so disjointed.

My best friends and I group text a lot but I agree with the annoyance of when it is a very large number of people, who mostly you don't know.

If you hate group texts, just turn them off or use the DND feature. I have a few groups going continually with my besties and some family.

I've been on a group text that has a MILLION people on it and I can't get off of it, and each time someone sends a message it costs me 50 cents because I don't have a text plan! Agh! I think its up to about $10 now.

I would like to add a reason not to use group msgs- someone just called me, BEFORE 7am, because they got my number yesterday from a group 'merry Christmas' text. I don't even know who it was! But he just woke me up on the first morning in a month that I've been able to sleep past 530 because he had my number after someone shared it yesterday on a group msg. I'm so grumpy right now.

Never for announcements or mass well wishes. But they can be really handy for coordinating plans with multiple family members or friends.
