We've been taking T to the dentist for a few years and they always ask if we floss and I say no but then they tell me we should. Am I the only one who doesn't floss their kids' teeth? He's 4.5 and has a lot of space between his teeth! R - forget it!

We don't either and they ask every time. His back molars touch, but he is NOT letting me in there to floss. He's 4 as well.

We have the kids flossers and LO (2) likes to floss. He will let me do it and I'm trying to get in the habit of doing this daily.

I do but it's a joke. None of his teeth touch except for the four on the bottom. He already has multiple cavities at 2 yo though, so I don't mess around with his teeth. We brush 3x/day and floss about every other day with these:

When I took G at 22 months they said she had good spaces and it was unnecessary as long as you make sure you brush your teeth at least twice a day

We floss every night for our 5 & 3 year old. Our dentist told us we need to start flossing every night for our 18 month old because her teeth are so close together on the bottom row.

DD is two and, honestly, we haven't even tried to floss. I know it will be a complete failure. For now we focus on brushing teeth really well. I know we need to try soon but I really like my fingers

We've done it a few times (at 3.5, so almost never), but nothing consistent. I also thought it was fine since he's got space between most of his teeth. But really his back molars do touch, so I should probably make more of an effort.

We do in theory. In practice, we do a couple of times a week, and they chew on their flossers and claim to be doing it themselves the other days (age 2 and 4).

We tried. The dentist said she had good space and didn't need it, but it's never too early to build good habits. We used the floss sticks above. She really liked doing it until she got carried away and made her gums bleed. Now she's not interested anymore. We need to start though because her new molars have come in and she's losing teeth so they are all moving around and space isn't the same as it once was.

I used to use those little disposable flosser things on DD1 and DD2 (4.5 and 2.5), but have gotten lazy recently. DD1 has tons of space, so I'm less concerned, but all of DD2's teeth touch/overlap, so I need to do better with her....particularly b/c she savors treats (so sugar lingers in her mouth longer).

I can't remember when we started - 3 maybe. We used those flossers for a long time and at 4 we switched to regular floss. Her dentist told us to floss bc her teeth all touch in the back and that's where cavities can develop. She had a tiny spot we were watching so he said to stay on top of it. At 5 we floss every night and at her last check up the spot is fine and the dentist says she has great teeth. I'm so glad bc I have really weak teeth and easily get cavities

Yes, every night. The back teeth touch for my twins and my lil one also has front teeth touching. I have bad teeth, so I make sure they take care of theirs. Plus, my hubby doesn't want them to get xrays, so trying to be more vigilant.

How do you tackle flossing with kids with sensory issues? Toothbrushing was a major struggle but we got there. I guess just do it and work on it daily?

We make our best effort to do it at least once a day. LO's teeth are extremely close together and he has very little space. At his last visit, the dentist told us that we need to take extra care to floss because of how close the spacing is. I have major guilt when we don't do it because I'm nervous about it. Dentist mentioned that children with spacing like his are quite prone to cavities, especially in the back, even if they follow the same routines and diet as children his teeth are much further apart.

DS likes the idea of it, but it's such a PITA to get in his mouth and his teeth are really spaced out so I don't do it very often. The dentist gave us a cool flosser for him that makes it a little easier, but still difficult with a 2.5 year old!

Sometimes. He just mostly does it himself with the dinosaur ones. We've at least stepped it up since he has some adult teeth growing in.

I try to use the little kids flossers but we forget sometimes... I will do it as much as I can and the. DD kinda chews on it for a while. Not sure how much good it's doing but Dd's dental checkups have been ok.

4.5 and 2 year old both floss and brush every night. It's part of our routine that we've developed ever since they've had just their 2 bottom teeth. I have horrible teeth and do not want them following in my shoes!

We haven't tried flossing DS' teeth yet; he is 16 months. We "brush" twice a day, which is mostly him sucking on the tooth brush and me trying to get a few swipes across his teeth before I lose a finger.

No, I haven't even tried on LO (2.5) but his teeth have wide spacing. I should probably start so he gets accustomed to it.

We only floss the teeth that are close (each girl has some of those), and only when we remember. Probably twice a week or so. They girls actually don't mind the flossing, it's just a matter of us remembering.
LO1 has touching molars on all sides, so we try to floss there. That was where she has the most plague at her last visit. LO2 has crowded bottom teeth, so we floss those.

My kids do. They use the kids flossers.
Their dentist has a flossing chart with stickers. Fill up the chart with stickers (usually 20-25 spots) and you can bring the chart back to the office and get a prize or healthy treat. Seems to have really motivated them.
