Our eldest usually listens to us, if we get down to eye level and talk to him nicely.
Our daughter kind of tunes in and out of reality, so sometimes she just doesn't listen. It's not that she hears us and ignores us - it's like she just doesn't hear it at all! It's been getting better over time though.

Me: Can you please clean up the legos
DS: ~silence~
Then again DH is the same way - DS must take after him
Me: Can you take out the trash?
DH: silence
Me: want to have sex?
DH: heck yeah!

Haha she's really too little to tell yet (13 months) but if I tell her not to do something & she does it again if I ask "what did mommy say?" & she usually barks at me because I ask her "what does a puppy say?" All the time. I'd count that as listening lol

We are having a problem with our 3 year old listening! It's very frustrating and exhausting. Raising our voices gets a big laugh from him. Yes, we feel like a big fat joke! Sigh!

I remember when I first got my son evaluated by EI they kept wanting to test his hearing but it felt so silt because the kid has never had trouble hearing me when I offer him something he wants! I in fact have to be very careful not to say things like TV, DVD, wiggles, candy, chocolate, cracker, and anything else that he loves. So that said I feel like he listens to what I say most of the time but only has radar for certain things. Things that matter to him.
