If they do, do you care? Would you say anything?
LO's daycare always serves crazy amounts of chips at any celebratory party. Chips, cake, cookies, juice. Look, i'm not opposed to giving my kids chips, cakes and cookies but what's the point in having a "No junk food" policy?

We had some junk food at a party, but also fruit and veggies. I don't have a problem with it. They're not giving it to her every day.

Only at parties where there are adults invited too (like, not within their little classroom parties). They have a couple of open house / celebrate the season type events that are potluck and there are always cookies and chips at those (though, not much now that I think about it); but they don’t allow sweets/chips/etc in the school. We can’t even bring in treats for a birthday or anything.
ETA: I don't care, and let LO eat chips and cookies at parties.

Party menus at school aren't that bad....lots of fruit, cheese, veggies, pretzels, juice, goldfish crackers and bagels. I think they had cookies or brownie bites once!
I don't think I would care if they served junk food at parties because it is only a few times a year.

@autumnlove: @yoursilverlining: @BlueWolverine: Those sound fine because there's a mix of options! The list i got for LO's thanksgiving party was pumpkin pie, chips and cheese puffs. I think my problem is that i dislike the director.

At the old daycare, YES. They would have cheese puffs, cookies, cupcakes, etc. For 1 year olds. It always upset me and I told the teachers what she could or could not have. I would bring in something healthy like strawberries and say she could have that and ONE unhealthy option. Ugh. We moved her in June and there have been no parties at the new daycare since we moved. We'll see what happens at Halloween, though. I really don't care if it isn't ALL the time. The other daycare just had parties way too often.

The parents provide the food and sign up for what they are going to bring. The room mom's (I am one this year) send an email and suggest the items. The end of the summer party was only one sweet thing, then it was pizza, fruit, cheese, crackers.

@Freckles: maybe you do dislike the director, but i would have a problem with those as the only foods being offered. i mean a treat for special occasions is one thing, but crap with a side of crap, followed by a slice of crap is terrible and would cause an upset tummy in many LOs! there's just no need for that much junk food to be served without healthy options along with them.

@Freckles: does daycare provide the food or do parents? Could you offer to bring in one or two healthy shareable things and tell the teachers your lo can have the healthy things and one treat?

@mediagirl: Yeah, i had major issues when LO was younger because i thought she was too young to have all of that crap. After she turned 2 i stopped any restrictions.They already provide them with unhealthy snack options at the daycare (cookies, marshmallows, chocolate chips, cheese whiz), so the even crappier party snacks annoy me. ETA: I bring extra snacks for LO like fruit, crackers, real cheese, etc.

@Smurfette: I wish our daycare had something like that - that menu sounds great!
@mrs. bird: There are only 2 parties parents are invited to (mother's day and father's day) and it was like chips heaven. I haven't said anything to the director, except for the one time i thought she should be more transparent with what's in the trail mix.

@Mamaof2: Sorry, they don't give cookies everyday! But afternoon snack is usually OJ plus some crap snack. OJ = fruit.

@Freckles: I'm a food snob when it comes to LO and daycare knows it. They know she gets no sweets & junk. they usually post a list for parties and parents sign up. I usually bring a fruit and make something that I don't mind LO having and I know she likes.
She's 29m and we still pack her lunch. She has daycare snacks but they are pretty healthy.

DS doesnt go to daycare so maybe thats why its different, he goes to pre-school and his school is to opposite, uber strict on snacks, lunches, and food brought in for parties. Cupcakes and cookies are a no no always and there are other foods on this list of green light, yellow light, and red light options. Its nice in some ways I guess but a little sad too with the no cupcakes for birthday parties since if you cant have sugar on your birthday when can you? The last party in his class the mom brought fruit to be dipped into chocolate sauce.

@mediagirl: Did your old daycare have parties while she was in the infant room? Our infant room goes up to 18m and we haven't had any parties yet. I'm not super strict about food, but I'd be weirded out about giving a 1 year old an entire cupcake (birthday aside). Much less a whole party of junk food. I'd give my son a bite of something maybe, but not cheese puffs AND cookies AND a cupcake.
@Freckles: You have me worried now. I just checked out our daycare menu and they eat "trailmix" several times a week and 100% juice 2-3 times a week. Again I'm not a food nazi, and DS get juice every so often (and usually only has a few sips) but that seems excessive. Water is perfectly fine for snack :-/. And now I feel the need to ask what's in the trialmix even though they won't feed it to him until he moves up to the next room.

@ShootingStar: no she moved to the 1's room at 1 and that's when the trouble started. There were no parties in the infant room.

our daycare only provides what it provided by the parents. So if other parents bring juice boxes, then that's what they get. I try to send in healthier options to counter the sweeter options, but I get that it's easier and more economical to bring in a bag of chips or cookies than a veggie platter (which may not get eaten!!). Plus if it's a birthday party, then ... I'm okay with junk food since it's the kids' special day.

@Mrs. Chocolate: sounds a lot like our daycare (except we can bring in cookies for the big potluck celebrations, but can't bring in cookies for a birthday or anything like that).
@Freckles: I would be upset too, if I were you. Your OP sounded like an isolated incident maybe; which would be ok, but their overall menu stuff sounds whoa! 
Our daycare is pretty strict with food though; they never serve juice of any kind (only milk or water), and afternoon snack is stuff like cheese + whole wheat crackers, plain rice cakes, homemade banana bread, mini bagel with cream cheese. Definitely no choco chips, marshmallows, etc.

Yes, for birthday parties they'll do cupcakes or cake or cookies. It doesn't bother me since they're rare and fun occasions.
