Anyone temp/chart while using an electric blanket? It's too cold to stop using it yet. But it's definitely throwing my temperature off. It's lower at earlier am times than later am ones but I wonder if charting will still be accurate.

As the morning progresses, your temp goes up, so I don't know if it's the blanket. I think TCOYF talks about things like that?

It shouldn't really affect your core temp I don't think and your temp definitely rises as you wake up. Make sure to always take it at the same time of day...before you are really awake and before you get out of bed.

@Mrs. J: My temperature is definitely higher after I've been in the blanket than any other time. It's higher with the blanket than later in the day.
@Mrs Green Grass: My core temperature is definitely higher because of the blanket. My temperature is usually on the lower side but it's been higher in the morning which I have to assume is because of the blanket.

This is because your BBT rises as it gets later, so make sure you are taking it at close to the same time. If you absolutely can't stop using the blanket for now, I'd make sure that you make notes on your chart when you're using it because I'd assume you'd still see a pattern of change, even if they are higher.
Also, where are you at in your cycle? It could be the progesterone making your temp higher.

@Mrs. J: I googled this issue and read somewhere that your temperature will be higher because of the electric blanket but as long as you don't adjust the setting differently every night, it will still be accurate. The temperature might not be your actual temperature without the blanket but as a whole it can be compared against itself. (Basically what you said) If I take my temperature at any point NOT in bed/with the blanket on, it's roughly 95-96 degrees. When I wake up in the morning, after being under the blanket all night, it's 97ish which is high for me. It's back to 95-96 before I go to bed though. Our apartment is *terribly* insulated (like 45-55 degrees in the winter - inside!) so until it warms up, the blanket is necessary. I'm on CD 38 so I'm just trying to see IF I'm even ovulating at this point. =/

I don't know anything about charting because I skipped straight to fertility treatments, but I will say that my Dr. told me not to use an electric blanket or even take a hot bath after my IUI because sperm don't like the heat. Much to my chagrin, you aren't supposed to use it during pregnancy either since the fetus shouldn't get that hot. I've actually read that a good way to get around using an electric blanket is to put it on high for an hour or two before you get into bed, then once you get in turn it off. I've been doing this all winter with the exception of a few nights when it was absolutely freezing out and I just kept it on the lowest setting.

@Modern Daisy: Yeah, I know they're not ideal but I can't handle 45-55 degree temperatures INSIDE my apartment in the winter! So it's a necessity at this point =/

@LindsayinNYC: I think you've said what I believe would be right--the blanket could be raising your temps (TCOYF says that an electric blanket can raise them), but that's ok b/c you're using it every night, so you'll still see a pattern.
And on another note: brrrrr! I'm a cold weather wimp, and would have such a hard time in that cold of an apartment! You would find me in long underwear, a hat, two layers of socks, and most definitely an electric blanket (although I worry about fires.) I bet you're really ready for spring.

@LindsayInNYC: Yikes, that is COLD!!! I think so log as you are using the blanket at the same setting every night, you will be fine. I found my temp went up when I switched to the winter duvet, but I was still able to see a pattern. It was just higher overall than normal.

@Modern Daisy: was thinking about what you wrote as I showered this morning. I love hot showers....like, turn your skin red/pink hot. Are these no-nos when TTC and pregnant? I'm fearing your answer will be yes.

@Happygal @Grace: Seriously, it's cold! This is our third winter in the apartment but first with the electric blanket. Even so, we sleep with pants, socks, long sleeves and, at times, a sweatshirt. Totally normal, right?! I can't wait to move!
