We're planning to take a vacation somewhere in Europe with our 4 and 2 year old this summer. We were thinking to spend at least one of two weeks at a beach resort. Has anyone done this in Europe? Any suggestions where to go?

@mrsbookworm: I haven't done it myself, but my SIL lives in Europe and she and her husband always do ClubMed vacations with the kids. I guess they have really good children's programs. She has 4 kids aged 2-7.

This was before kids, but my husband and I spent a week at a resort in Lagos in southern Portugal and it was fantastic, I would definitely recommend it.

You could do a lake rather than a beach? I haven't been, but I know several families/couples who regularly go to Lake Cuomo (Italy) - their photos look beautiful.

@mrsbookworm: It depends a little on whether you want warmer waters or not. The Atlantic coast of both France and Portugal are very pretty but the water is colder than the Mediterranean. Depends on when you want to go but Greece is great for going in Spring. Also have never met anyone that didn't love Corsika.
If you prefer cooler weather you can check out the Dutch or German beaches. -
Thanks everyone! I think I've narrowed it down to either Croatia (Mediterranean) or Bulgaria (Black Sea). We'd like to combine the beach with some sightseeing. If anyone has any thoughts on these destinations, I'd love to hear them!

I've never done a resort, but I would look at Croatia, Greece, southern Spain, Mallorca, or Corsica.
@mrsbookworm: let me know if you decide to do Croatia, we are thinking about a long weekend there. Also, my BIL and his family went to a resort in Bulgaria on the Black Sea last year (don't remember where). They said the hotel was nice but there wasn't much to do nearby.

@lamariniere: Thanks for the suggestions. We just went to Mallorca and Barcelona so those two are out. I think I'll look into Corsica though. If we go to Croatia I'll let you know! It's looking like that's the best possibility. We don't necessarily need a resort, I just want to spend some of the vacation relaxing at the beach, rather than just sightseeing.

@mrsbookworm: Have you looked into the regional air carriers and see where they're flying during the summer? It might inspire you to look outside of the traditional places.
I used to use a German low cost carrier when I lived abroad for summer vacation destinations. ( I think Air Berlin).
