How do you know when a car seat expires? My MIL was given an Eddie Baur Delux 3-in-1 car seat. The model number is 22758-HDS. Manufacture date was 12-13-2007.
I've looked through the manual online but don't see how long. Help!

There isn't a sticker on the underside that says? I don't know if it helps, but my 2012 infant seat expires in 2018. Don't know if they all have the same length of life?

@ladybee: I'm pretty sure it is based on manufacture date with most seats expiring after 5 years

It's usually between 6-8 years, depending on the manufacturer. the seat is likely expired.

@yoursilverlining: @mrswin: thank you both. I found in black writing on the black seat on the bottom that it's good till December 2015. My FIL is telling my that's crap and it'll be fine after. Oh generational differences.

@ladybee: my husband also thinks that's crap- but he doesn't fight me on safety issues. He's realized it's definitely better to let me have my way with in comes to things like car seats.

@ladybee: I hope you can convinc them not to use it. It's not recommend to use secondhand seats unless you know and trust the original owner well so that you can be confident that the seat was never in an accident, straps have never been submerged in liquid, all pieces are there, etc. My MIL (who rarely sees or watches my LO) mentioned getting a used seat and I quickly turned her off to that idea.
