Hi All, I'm breastfeeding and my one month old has always fed for about 2 hours a feeding. Otfen it stretches out to 3 or 4 hours. Often she takes pauses, sometimes she feeds for hours with very few pauses. She spends even more time no alert and wanting to feed, she doesn't sleep often (nor do I ) She rarely feeds less than 1.5 hours, and if she does it's because she just finished a marathon feeding right before. If I put her down before 2 hours is up she moves her mouth and is upset and obviously hungry. She was born with a low weight for her height (6 lb 3 oz, 19 in) but has gained 2 pounds 3 ounces in 1 month and has TONS of dirty and wet diapers, so I know she's getting plenty. She can't latch well so I use nipple shields, but I do often try to ween her off them. Dad feeds her about 4 times a week, once at night, with my expressed milk. He says often goes through 5-7 oz and then still acts hungry. When she does sleep it's for about 2.5-3 hour stretches. Any ideas as to why she's feeding so long? Is it because she goes a long time between feedings (2-3 hour breaks, sometimes)?
Thanks!
