Right now he doesn't fight yet because he wants to wear something other than what I've picked out, he fights because he doesn't want to get dressed. And he doesn't get that choice - I'm not sending him to school in PJs. I also feel like it sets a dangerous precedent that he can fight me on something and win. Today he fought and fought about putting on his jacket and I wasn't having it. I'm not interested in letting him scream and wiggle away from me and not put on his coat.

It depends on the weather and occasion. Coats, jackets, and shoes are nonnegotiable. I ignore her screams and tantrums for those. For church or a special event, I don't give in. Any place else, I just go with the flow. You win some, you lose some.

@mediagirl: I was just searching for old threads about tantrums and getting dressed and stumbled on this..... Just curious how it all worked out? Our mornings are horrendous right now

@travelgirl1: she's still picky, so darn picky, about clothes. I am actually shocked I wrote this 10 months ago, I feel like I wrote it last week. Haha. Some days she loves one thing, the next day she hates that same thing. We did end up getting her into her dress for a couple of pictures. Turned out she was sick on Easter so we didn't actually go anywhere. Bribery works for special occasions....

I don't fight that. Well, as long as it isn't a necessary article of clothing (coat) for weather.

I choose my battles wisely - fighting about everyday clothing is not a battle I would win

@mediagirl: ahhh, I was hoping you were going to have this amazing advice for me about how you have since got dressing her down to a fast, fine art with no tantrums and everyone smiling at the end

@travelgirl1: I have been working on a few things. They all work sometimes. But it's better than nothing?
1. Have her pick out her clothes the night before.
2. Have another optional "typically favorite" outfit available just in case.
3. Always get dressed in the same place. We do it on the floor in her bedroom right in front of the dresser.
4. Let her dress herself if she wants to. Ask if she wants help. Wait for her to ask you for help.
5. If all else fails - Anna and Elsa shirt. Just go with it.

This is exactly why I hate it when people buy DS character/branded clothing. Because they are the only items he ever cares about wearing. When he is overtired I sometimes have to grab his superman sweatshirt out of the hamper. Otherwise he could care less what I dress him in!
