I can't believe I'm even writing this, but my little man is 8 months old now, and I'm starting to think about his 1st birthday party! I plan to have something small-ish at our house, and I'm trying to figure out a fun theme.
I'm not into any characters or a jungle motif or anything like that, but does anyone have any good ideas for a birthday party theme for a little boy? Something along the lines of "balls" or "robot disco" (friends already did robot disco, but I loved it).

our DS had a farm animal theme for his first birthday.
his second birthday, i did something easier and did a balloon theme. just had balloons everywhere.

Eek I can't believe it's time to start planning their parties already! I love the idea of a robot theme (disco or otherwise!). You'll have to post about it
I'm doing a Sunday brunch theme (if that's a theme) but am undecided on colors so far. I'm sticking to balloons and streamers for decor.

Gah! Our little birthday twins are growing so quickly! I have to admit though, I have been pinning various ideas on pinterest for a couple of months now.... although I'm not even sure we'll have a party as we're moving at the start of April to a city about 2000 miles away from where we are now and won't really know anyone there. And of course our families are in the US and UK so it doesn't really make sense for them to come all the way to Australia just for a party.....but anyway, I digress.
If we do have a party, I'm leaning towards a rainbow theme - not actual rainbows, but a rainbow colors theme. There are just so many cute ideas out there and I'm obsessed. Probably doesn't help with a theme for a boy's party though...
If you're leaning towards a balls theme, you can always expand on that a bit and make it a bubbles theme as well (maybe a bit of champagne for the adults with brunch, bubbles as favors for the kids, perhaps a bubble machine for the kids to run through outside etc). Just an idea!

@pregnantbee: It's never too early to plan! That's the fun part anyway! Will your DH be on board with the ideas, or is he like mine, where he just kind of rolls his eyes and thinks the whole idea of a theme for a party is a bit silly. Sigh, at least he humours me!
Yes, we're moving again - off to Darwin this time. Not by choice, although Darwin is lovely, but because DH's work (civil engineering) consists of living in a place for a year or two working on a project, then moving to the next project, wherever that may be. Fortunately, his company takes care of all the moving logistics (packing, costs, temporary accommodation etc) but it's still a pain. Ah well, eventually we'll get to a point where we can settle down, buy a house, and consider one place our home!
Anyway, keep us posted on what you end up doing for a theme, can't wait to see!

Oh my. Thanks so much for all of the suggestions, ladies! Love the variety. I'm leaning toward a circus theme (animals, cool fonts, balloons, etc.) or just "balls" (including bubbles). Love the idea of brunch, too, as it's my favorite meal of the day. Not sure how that would go with a circus theme. Will still ponder
@Ree723: DH will probably go along with whatever I want to do. He'll give his opinion when he really does care about something, but usually just gives me the go ahead and knows to stay out of the way! Hopefully the move goes smoothly and that you do get to settle down at some point. E and future LOs will have more life experiences than most this way, though!

We did an airplane theme for his first birthday...something along the lines of "flying past one".
I think for his second birthday we are going to do a Thomas theme which is his current obsession. Something super small for the family, but I know DS would love to see all the "choo-choo" stuff.

@pregnantbee: I was overwhelmed with ideas too! Another bee, who has become my friend IRL gave me the airplane idea. She's super good at the themes lol.
Search Etsy and Pinterest for ideas. So many great things that can easily be DIY. I made cupcakes with homemade marshmallow clouds and airplanes on them. Huge hit.

@anbanan15: Yes re: Etsy and Pinterest. Afraid of falling into a black hole, though! There's so much goodness in both places that I will prob. get overwhelmed too easily!
My other idea is a "dog" theme where I bake cookies shaped like biscuits, have "doggie bags" as favors.
The other thing is that there really won't be too many kids at the party -- Only have a couple local friends with kids -- a 3-yr-old, a 2-yr-old, two other 1-year-olds, and I think that's it.
So many cool ideas!
