Re-reading the series right now for the umpteenth time. Love it with every fiber of my being!

There isn't enough time in the day for me to explain the depths of my love for this series of books. My daughter has a Harry Potter nursery and I named one of my dogs after a character, to give you an idea.

Stop what you are doing immediately and read them all.

Ahhh sooo jealous you are about to experience HP as a newbie!! I am so excited t read them to LO! I have read the series 5 times all the way through, plus the 1st book with my 5th grade class 2 separate times. DH read the series foe the first time as an adult and was amazed at how good they truly are, and so much more detailed than the movies.

Absolutely! I've read them all multiple times and still get excited about them when I decide to reread the series every few years. Despite being geared for kids, I think there are some profoundly good ideas that resonate for adults.

I am a "meh." I haven't read the entire series, I probably read the first book, but then after that it petered out. I think for me the main thing is that I generally get turned off by mass hysteria when it comes to a book, so even if it's super fantastic, the fact that everyone is reading it is likely to make me not pick it up.

Now, having said that, I will likely pick up a set and read them with my son.

@looch: I am the same way. Although, it was years ago that I attempted to read them (I think I was around 11 or 12) I got halfway through the second book and just stopped reading.

However, there is so much hype around them sometimes I feel like I missed out and should have given them more of a chance. I will probably give them another try in the future.

I made fun of them for so long b/c it was a "kids" book. But I was currently commuting by train and looking for a book to read and DH asked me to just read it. And I fell in love. I was lucky that all of the movies were out by the time I started so we would watch the movie after I finished each book. And now that they're always on tv, I always have to watch them.
