Have you conquered the laundry beast?

@lamariniere: that might be part of it for me too, I didn't have a washer or dryer in my apartment for about 10 years so it seems luxurious now! No more finding quarters or dragging it up flights of stairs = heaven!

I am rocking it on maternity leave! I wash and fold about every three days. I know that once I go back to work and am handling two kiddos that both hate sleep that I'll never have time. No clue how laundry will get done; I'm enjoying these tips!

ETA I don't sort at all and just wash everything on cold. I'm probably ruining all our clothes but whatever, it's easier!

We've never had issues with laundry. Our strategy is basically divide and conquer. DH and I each do our own clothes, once per week. I tend to do sheets, he does common towels, we each do our own bath towels. We used to do LO1's stuff on Friday nights (after bringing her sheets home from daycare), but now that LO2 is here, we basically combine LO1 and LO2's stuff and do it as needed. So maybe 2-3 small loads for the kids each week. Either DH or I will do them, and we share the folding as well. I think because we share the chore so well, it doesn't ever feel terrible.

Laundry is the one thing we can NEVER get ahead of ... there are only 3 of us, and I don't know how we can possibly have SO MUCH!!!

I follow some recommendations from A Slob Comes Clean. We do a laundry day on Thursdays and wash all the clothing laundry in the house. Sheets and towels on the weekend. The other thing I like from her is the suggestion to fold and put the laundry away as soon as it comes out of the dryer. It seems counterintuitive since it would be more time-efficient to throw the next load in first but putting it away right away really helps.

My mom usually helps me put away girls laundry. For everything else I usually put away at night after the girls are in bed. Right now our stuff is a little tricky since DD2 is in our room; I end up doing it on weekends during a wrap nap!

@looch: maybe it's just me, because my husband doesn't mind laundry and is also really fast and efficient about putting it away. But also, he hangs his stuff a little sloppily and I like to hang my stuff/the girls' stuff just right... but I can fold undershirts and towels and stuff super fast.

When we do the kids' laundry together, we fight over who gets to do the folding stuff because it's so much faster--we fold pajamas, undershirts, socks/undies and tumble shorts, and hang everything else.

I do it during the week if the basket is full.. then try to put it away when it is done (dh puts his own away, I make him!)

But typically on the weekends I do 4 loads. Everyone's mixed together. One light, two colour, one dark usually. Then I fold everything and sort mine into one basket, the kids into one and DHs into one. I put mine and the kids away as soon as I can, usually when it's all done on Sunday. Dhs sits forever but I don't care! Haha

I will credit my laundry quasi-success in part to my part time nanny. She will often fold laundry unasked, and just this monday she ran all of my laundry unasked. I nearly fell over. I used to be sort of picky as to how I did my laundry. Until someone started doing it. Then I got over it Well, except for my husband. He is the absolute worst at doing laundry. So, long story short as long as its folded, I can get it put away, but it will sit for days in the basket, clean but in a pile.

@pachamama: ha! It sticks in my mind because it was so momentous and then we went on vacation and had a second baby and a year later here we are lol

Laundry is the one chore I feel like I stay on top off. The big things are that our washing machine is tiny, so no point in waiting for a large load to build up, and DD and I both have fairly small wardrobes, so laundry needs to happen regularly so we have things to wear!

Also, we have no extra baskets so things need to be put away quickly or then the dirty clothes have no where to go.

@lamariniere: @psw27: Laundry is the one household chore I am good at 😆
And I am a laundry snob, so we run a load of white warm, white cold, dress shirts & blouses, light cold, light warm, dark cold, dark warm and a load of jeans a week. Then I make nice piles for clothing type and person usually while watching TV at night and then I put it away the next morning.

We do laundry almost every single day. One of my kids inevitably does something to their clothes that requires immediate soak and wash, the baby is also a happy spitter (so that's usually an extra outfit and at least my shirt to get washed), and DH works in a restaurant. I typically just put lights and darks in together and just wash everything on cold! I start the load at night and move it over before breakfast. Then as my kids get dirty I put their clothes right in the washing machine. I fold every couple of days- it's time to do it when the clean laundry basket on top of the dryer is full and so is the actual dryer lol. I do sheets and towels weekly.
