I made some but I'm waiting for our old laundry detergent to run out before I use it. I hope I like it..... I made a pretty big batch!

@artbee: I have in the past and loved it! The worst part was shredding the bars of soap but other than that it was easy and worked great! I need to make another big batch. I get frustrated because not one store carries all the ingredients so I have to get 1-2 things from Target, 1-2 things from WalMart and 1-2 things from Publix.

Yup, been making it for over four years? I always make a big 5 gallon bucket and if I remember to I make a double batch.
I use it to wash all our laundry and my husband has a physical job so he sweats a lot.
@T.H.O.U.: @artbee:
What recipe did you use? Mine has Ivory soap, borax and washing soda.
T.H.O.U. I've never had issues getting supplies from one store!

I want to, but I don't want to buy all the ingredients and go through the effort if I don't like it!
I wish there was a way to try out the formulation!

I did for our cloth diapers. Works great!
We don't use a shredded bar of soap in our recipe, so it was super easy to mix.

DH used to make ours but we ran out recently, and instead of making more we've switched to a new detergent in preparation for the baby.

@T.H.O.U.: I was able to get everything at Walmart. I think it's all at my Publix too, but the person on the blog that I got it from said to go to Walmart so I did that before realizing it was at Publix.
@regberadaisy: Washing Soda, borax, and fels-naptha laundry bar soap. I'm worried about the smell because of the soap.... Ivory soap must smell much better then this stuff.
@looch: The ingredients aren't expensive, and you can make a small batch to see if you like it first. For some reason I decided to just take the plunge and make a big batch in hopes that I will like it.

@anbanan15: What recipe do you use? I would love to not have to buy cloth diaper laundry detergent, and I'd love to not have to shred that soap

@artbee: I used those ingredients and it worked fine on my CDs!! The one I used is on my blog, I forget the exact ingredients.

@artbee: I use the same thing! I don't notice a smell on the clothes after if that helps. I made the 'standard' size bath back right before Christmas and its about 1/2 gone! (3 bars, 1 box borax 1 box super washing soda)

@looch: it cost me about $10 at Walmart for everything. So far, 4 months later, we have used about half of it.

@artbee: yup, I didn't want anything scented so Ivory soap works great.
@looch: you can use borax and washing soda for so many other things! And it's super cheap so if you don't like it you won't be wasting money.

Nope, but the thought always intrigued me. I might experience with it one day in the future just to check it off as "been there, done that".

I make my own and I loooove it! Plus it saves us sooo much money! I can't imagine buying detergent again, seriously!
@artbee: I found a similar recipe, but instead of the fels-naptha, I used Ivory. Only because I use Ivory bar soap when I shower, and that's just what I had on hand. Plus I love the scent of it, kind of a fresh scent!

Not yet, but me and my mom are going to make it once we run out of our currently supply of store bought detergent. I'm excited!

@sorrycharlie: Good that does make me feel better! I don't have a good sense of smell so I wouldn't mind, but DH is picky about that stuff. I doubled your recipe, it should last a year according to the blog I read. I'm excited not not have to buy laundry detergent!

@artbee: borax, washing soda and oxiclean! Here is the blog I got it from and I LOVE it! Somewhere in the comments they say it's essentially the same thing as Charlie's Soap and the basic components of RockinGreen (which we used at first but didn't work with our hard water in the end). The homemade worked the best for us after trying a few CD safe detergents...no stinks, no residue buildup, no stains and the diapers always looked fresh and new!
