My car was broken into.

Yes, my car was broken into in college (CDs, all my change, and clothes in the backseat stolen.)

I also had a "friend" steal cash from me in HS. Found out because she still had the bank envelope in her purse...she didn't bank at the same bank. I couldn't prove it so I was out my entire Dairy Queen paycheck (that I had just cashed.)

Someone broke into my car and stole my purse/wallet/everything once. It was stupid of me to leave it in there where I was though, even though it wasn't for that long (in my mind)

No. I've had a very Pollyanna type life so far, thank goodness. The closest a crime has ever come to me is when I was little....my oldest sister had a crazy ex boyfriend who started stalking her and threatening our whole family, saying he was going to kill all of us to teach her a lesson. One night, he came to our house (my sister was an adult and had her own apartment at this point) and he knocked on MY window and starting calling through the window. I ran and got my dad who pulled out an old hunting rifle, called the police, and went outside to handle the boyfriend.

But nothing really came of it--thank goodness!

Our house was burglarized when I was in middle school or high school. We went on vacation and when we got back we saw a rock had been thrown through the living room window and lots of stuff had been taken. The house was a mess. They went through my brother's room (an old wallet was on the ground, obviously they didn't find anything) but didn't touch my girly looking room... I had $300 cash in a box from babysitting!! But they stole all of my mom's jewelry that I was hoping to borrow one day.

Yes, I was riding a very crowded subway once, and I thought someone's bag was rubbing against my backside. Until I realized a creeper standing near me was actually doing it. I freaked, immediately ran off the train, and told the woman working in the station. She called down some cops who were right outside the station, they stopped the train a few stops down to look for him but I'm sure he was long gone. I went to the station to file a report and never heard anything. The station worker and the officers were SO wonderful, though. I was very upset and they were so kind. The officers even offered to drive me the rest of the way to work, though I declined.

Yup, the Christmas presents I purchased were stolen from my car on Christmas Eve. I loaded them into the car so I could take them to my sister's house that night, but I changed my mind and decided to wait til Christmas day to drive to my sisters. I left the presents in the car overnight. It was stupid and my fault. I was, also, young and in high school. We lived in a safe neighborhood and never had issues in the past. My parents used to leave the house unlocked. I learned my lesson that crime can happen anywhere and to be more careful leaving things in my car in plain view.

A few. Christmas presents stolen from our trunk when I was a kid. Inappropriate touching as a high schooler. Car broken into at a sketchy parking lot as a college co-Ed. Credit card fraud as an adult. I think that's it. Wonder what could happen as a senior citizen?! Mmph! Don't want to think about it. Hopefully I have had my share. And by the way, I think the increased media attention is the reason why we fear more. I notice the more I read the news (almost daily lately) the more fear crops up. My brain can think of more possibilities of harm because there are lots of crazy things going on out there.

Just a minor thing but weird. I was in my grandparents' garage with the door open. A man rode up on his bicycle and did something to the front of the house. He knew I was watching just feet from him but I couldn't tell what he was doing. After a few seconds he rode off. I figured out about an hour later that he cut the phone line. I was relieved nothing happened to my grandparents.

Kept thinking of this post...Yesterday, DH's mountain bike was stolen right off of our bike rack on the car in front of our house!!!!! Aggghh!!

My dad has been mugged several times. My parents were held up a few years back. Thankfully they weren't hurt. Dh's car was broken in to overnight at my old apt. They stole his stereo system/tvs/DVDs player. A few years ago, some kids stole a few things out of dh's car but I had stupidly left the doors unlocked.

1) as a kid in So Cal my dad brother and I were "playing" tennis (we are horrible at tennis), at a public park tennis courts. A car of thugs pulled up and doused us with a fire retardant and then sped off! It was horrible, the smell! Have no idea why.

2) My car was broken into a couple of times in our closed detached garage. They only stole an older Palm device (remember those?!) and an old broken PC. we called police on them when we caught them in the act. A repeat offender!

3) Sexually assaulted in a Paris subway in college while studying abroad but luckily I was able to get away. There was only one other person in that train car but he turned out to be a drugged up stoned homeless guy who was totally not there so I was basically alone.

4) identity theft a few times, credit card and online credit stuff....

I'm sure there was more but that's all I can remember now!

My car got broken into at work when I was 18. I got some sentimental things from my grandparents and my college books all taken.

My ex boyfriend beat the tar out of me. And he threatened me with a gun and held it to my head so when I called my parents to come helpe move out, they called the police and the sent a swat team. It's interesting, after filing a police report, nothing ever came out of that. I thibk he should have been arrested. Whatever. I like to think he's my underlying cause of ally anxiety. POS.

For me, date rape in college, credit card fraud, roommate mugged at knifepoint while we were unloading groceries (in my mid-20s), car broken into 2x... hopefully I'm not forgetting anything.

My car was broken into (while in the service shop!) and my wallet was stolen while I was at a restaurant with some friends. Luckily I realized it within an hour, so I was able to freeze all my credit cards before the their spent too much.

As an infant, my dad was holding me and our drunk old neighbor came at him and attacked him while he was holding me in our yard. So per my dad neither of us have much chance of serving on a jury because we were victims of a violent crime, haha.

Our home was also robbed when I was in high school.

@mrscobee: oh yeah, I know. That was just what always got him out of jury duty. He also would say that he didn't believe in the US justice system and stuff like that. He HATED jury duty! But I figure that's just a consideration of the court, if that's even pertinent to the case. Strangely I didn't ever get called til this year and then I got excused because I'm pregnant.
