I don't know how accurate the data is, since I just googled and the site that came up was city-data.com....but it says violent crime rate is 162.7/100,000. I feel safe in my neighborhood, but I also feel like since it's an urban neighborhood, that it's the kind of place where you need to be aware of your surroundings when walking alone at night, etc. It's a walking city, so I'd be more likely to be walking home alone at night than driving home alone--so that's the situation I think about.

During the day, I feel 100% safe.

My violent crime rate is 427/100,000. That seems like a lot. It's a very urban area and I feel kind of safe.

87/100k per city data, I don't even feel like I even need to lock my door when I leave.

Looks like 459/100k people. I feel safe in my neighborhood, there are parts of the city where I wouldn't/don't though. I live in a large city and there are good areas and bad areas.

ETA: murder rate is 3/100k and rape is 55/100k

@Coffee-lover: I have a feeling in an urban area there are small spots that are better or worse. When I moved to my neighborhood we looked in specific pockets of it that we would consider. But it helps to have inside knowledge of the area. But yeah I think most major cities would have higher rates.

@Coffee-lover: Ours is very high 500-600 however an article noted that it only includes residents as the population. We almost double our population during session (state capital) and when university is in session (72,000 students). Plus many people that live in neighboring counties that drive in for work daily. So really if you use that full number as the population it's actually very safe. All in how you want to present the numbers. We do hear about a lot of crime but we really feel safe.

@T.H.O.U.: I love your city! We vacation there and I'm forever trying to convince my Husband to try to find a job there.

Ours doesn't have enough data for a rate, but it does say the most common crimes here are burglary and car theft.

I generally feel safe where I life. I'm in the burbs outside a big city.

I couldn't find overall crime stats like those mentioned above, but the murder rate for the country I live in is very low, 0.9 per 100,000 in 2012. In general, I feel very safe here.

My area seems to have rates of 300-400/100k depending on what year and site you look at. I live in an urban area. I do feel safe where we live, but because it's a city, I am always cautious. There have definitely been shootings and stabbings nearby but they are almost always people who know each other.

I used to live in a different city with a violent crime rate that was more like 1000/100k, and I admit I was alot more cautious there. It definitely felt different.

227/100k. I feel safe within reason. I would not wander past bars drunk at 2am. But I would not do that anywhere sooooooo.

One time I went out of town and left my door unlocked for a week so there's that.

It's really low here, 0 murders, 0 rapes, and 11.2/100k assults.

We still have a home security system for piece of mind but I feel safe walking around outside at night!

ETA: We were #3 safest city in OH last year.

Where we used to live and are trying to move back to until we buy: 117

Where we are now: 281 for the city, lots of theft & property crime but there are a lot of commercial areas nearby so not surprising. This is about as high as we would comfortably go. We will give up a lot to be safe.

For our town its 17 per 100k, which is crazy low. We live in a very very safe town. I don't worry at all. Most of the crime here is burglary when people aren't home or during the day. There was one murder here a few years ago it was a guy who killed his mother.

I live in Canada, and it's not published like that here. It is well established though that our overall rates are lower than in the US.

But agin, this is just homicides, so I'm sure the comparible rate is slightly higher in you include the data not included here.

Remember, we have strickter gun control laws, so that helps!

Where I live now it's 228/100k which is absurd. I feel reasonably safe here. For being the middle of nowhere it should be safer

We're moving to a Chicago suburb and it says it's 132/100k there

But where I live in the city is on the outskirts and I feel very safe here. I've walked around alone downtown at night before and felt nervous, but not like I couldn't do it. But I live nowhere near downtown. Where I am feels very safe!

528/100K but I live in the burbs versus the bad parts of town so I feel pretty safe!

Where I grew up is consistently ranked as one of the safest cities in the US.
