We knew we were due since about a year ago, but the damage got worse last month after a series of bad storms.
Coworker suggested I call insurance and see if they covered...and now we're getting almost all of it covered through our home insurance!
We saved for it and would never have thought that maintenance things like roof replacement would be covered! It was a nice surprise to have most of the $ back in our pockets!

We replaced our roof last year with a metal one that's supposed to last a really long time. My DH and FIL put it up themselves so we only paid the cost of materials.

That's awesome that it'll be covered! We had it done last year and paid about $10k. It was painful but at least the roof looks beautiful now and more importantly we fixed the leaks we were getting because the previous owner installed the skylights wrong.

We replaced our roof last year through our insurance. I knew it needed to be done, but like you was surprised that the damage was bad enough that our homeowners insurance would cover it.

That's awesome! We got lucky and bought a house with a brand new metal roof, which comes with a lifetime warranty.

Nice! We need to replace our roof but we knew that when we bought the house and negotiated a lower price. I wonder if I should just call insurance and ask though! We'd have to probably cough up 8-10k as well.

The previous owners replaced it a year or two before we moved in, so hopefully it'll be awhile before we have to replace it.

We did after a bad hailstorm last year. It's insane how much it costs to replace a roof!

A huge storm hit our house while we were under contract, but hadn't closed yet. As a result, we got a new roof! The seller's insurance covered the replacement, and we paid a little extra out of our pocket to get an "architectural" roof rather than a standard roof. Totally worth it, and we're set for the next 20 years! So exciting that your insurance will cover your new one!
