This is our first year having a sandbox and it has gotten occasionally wet this season and...winter is coming. I'm wondering if we should empty the sandbox and start fresh in the spring. Do you get new sand every season?

Yes. We have a high fence but sometimes forget the cover and I've heard others say that stray cats love to pee in sandboxes. I'm sure it gets rinsed off from the rain but I like fresh stuff in there at least once a year.

We haven't, but we are strict about covering it. I try to air it out in the spring, but I am not sure what that does, if anything.

We haven't, but we're also strict about covering it as well. We clean up our yard every night and make sure the sandbox is closed up before we go in for the night.

If it is always kept covered when not in use then I see no reason to replace it. I don't plan on replacing mine for a long time. I just put new sand in this year.
But if it isn't covered then I'd probably replace because in our area we have a lot of wandering cats and other animals.

Yes, but we replace once a year - usually at the start of summer. We also have a cover.

Ours has animal (chipmunk ) poop in it, so yes. We had it covered but clearly needed more reinforcement!
