Our niece who is turning 8 wants to sew a purse. I am looking and looking and not finding a DIY kit geared for kits that aren't too kiddy like a duck or something!
This is my back up which is a decorate a purse but I would love to find her a kit to sew or make her own purse.

Your best bet is probably going to be purchasing a pattern and fabric/notions to go with it. I highly recommend this pattern: http://oliverands.com/liesl-and-co-patterns/OLV-LC001BP-D.html. I've sewn three bags using it (including one that I scaled down for my then-6 year old niece). It's really straightforward and could probably be done by hand if she doesn't have access to a sewing machine.

@regberadaisy: I found this one on Etsy but I'm not sure how much sewing is involved. Other etsy shops will sell you everything but the fabric if you wanted to get fabric for her.

@avivoca: I really need a kit. Something super simple with step by step instructions. She doesn't live near me so I couldn't help her. Not that I or her mom know anything about sewing!
