Help please!! I'd love to find some shoes with real soles for my son. He was wearing American girl doll shoes for a little bit but they are made weird and too sturdy for his poor feet. He loves to stand and the only newborn shoes I can find have the fabric slippery bottoms.

I recommend Swedish "mockasiner". They are sturdy lined socks with leather bottoms made for walking on wooden or tiled floors. But people used them for newborns for extra warm toes. I noticed that the fancy British made ones (that say they're Swedish) aren't as flexible as the normal ones found in the stores. They definitely have them in newborn sizes. Stores that sell them:

What about taking puffy paint and painting gripper dots on the bottom of newborn shoes that fit him well? I did this wth DD2's footed pjs because she hadn't reached the size where they had grippers on the feet when she started standing,

What about asking a shoe maker what they can do? They have those heavy duty sewing machines and glue, they can probably put a decent sole on the bottom of something for you.

I had some made on Etsy that had a nice suede bottom that had a decent amount of grip to them. Maybe you could check there. They weren't much more than buying robeez and they were less than freshly picked (which could be a decent option too, a lot of new walkers do really well in them.)

Would newborn sized moccasins work? The bottoms aren't sturdy like real soles but they're leather so not as slippy.

Moc slippers with a non slip sole might work. I know Hanna Andersson makes them in all sizes including newborn.

I second the shoe maker idea on a pair of robeez or some bing similar. Nothing too stiff but something that grips.

@anonysquire: Have you measured his feet? Most infant shoes are show in inches/cm. It looks like PP starts at 4" for size 18 (EU sizes).

You guys are all so smart!!! He does have some of the crib sized freshly picked and they are way too big. His foot is also really narrow. He has the opposite of my wide feet haha. I hadn't even thought of a shoe maker. I'll have to check what's around me.

@anonysquire: H&M has a size 0 which they say is a 3". It is a crib shoe but you could do the puff paint idea to give it grip.
They also have listed a 00 and a 000 size which may be even smaller?!?

New Balance has small shoes. The smallest size I see is a size 2. But not sure what that equates too

If you could find something leather like a moccasin that would fit, I'd recommend it. My daughter wears hers exclusively and they are really non slip!
She has small feet (15 months, probably a size 2-3) and it's hard to find real shoes for sure. Especially ones that stay on.

Nordstrom and Nordstrom rack have size 0, 1,2, 3, etc, including some with real soles. I just sold some 2s to a consignment shop today--I think they were stride rite?

I would look for leather moccasins. Also possibly some shoes that are crib shoes.... we had some for my son that were soft but had grippy things on the soles from Old Navy. Not sure what sizes they came in but worth looking at maybe to see if any newborn sized crib shoes are just the same as ones for older babies and have soles you can walk on (he used those shoes as he learned to walk).
And yes, he is adorable!

I think he's adorable too the smallest size at old navy don't fit, but I will keep trying other places. I was so happy to find a pair of tiny newborn shoes at target but they are even too big and so slippery. (Ignore the pants situation. We were ill prepared for the cold weather so I had to throw him in his brothers hand me downs and they don't fit yet)

I'm on the hunt for new shoes for LO right now, and I'll keep my eye out for anything that you could find near you/online.
Soft Star Shoes have a vegan moccasin that has a really grippy rubber bottom. They held up really nicely, but I don't think they would be super suited for outside wear (I'm guessing they aren't super weather resistant).
