My OB unintentionally cut my cervix during my c-section. It was an emergency C because they lost my son's heartbeat so everything was rushed. I had just delivered DD vaginally (they're twins) so my uterus wasn't typical for a c-sec since half the occupants had vacated the premises. So she cut where she typically would and got my cervix instead. It lead to extra stitches and a ton of blood loss, but otherwise healed fine. If I were to have a future pregnancy, I would be at high risk of cervical incompetence, but I don't plan to have anymore kids!

Nope! Thank goodness!

@twodoghouse: I'm currently a candidate for a c-section because of a previa, and omg! I just shit my pants. I know you said it was an emergency and what not, but still. *covers eyes*

After my first was born a midwife came in to check me out and kept asking about some condition that I don't have. I kept asking her when they found out about this problem and why no one had told me about it and she finally left the room to check. Of course she was looking at the wrong chart. I'm glad that I asked so many questions because she was trying to plan treatment for the wrong person.

My OB tugged on LO2 pretty hard during delivery and we all heard a pop. Her collarbone broke I'm glad it wasn't worse though.

Not a mistake with LO3 but I had a brand spankin' new doctor come in to deliver her. She had another doctor talking her through the delivery but still, it made me nervous.

@Alivoo01: I'm pretty confident that this was 100% related to being a twin pregnancy, so please don't stress too much about it!

This didn't happen to me, but to my aunt. My uncle was unable to go to the labor and delivery because he had the stomach flu the day she went into labor of ALL things.

Thank God, though, because her best friend was a nurse who went with her in place of her husband and there were two major things that could have gone wrong without her being there!! First, one nurse gave the hep B vaccine and another nurse came in and was about to give it again but my aunt's friend was paying attention and was able to tell her not to and to double check with the first nurse!

Second, and most importantly, about a half hour after birth they had put the baby in a warmer for a bit following his newborn exam and my aunt's friend noticed he stopped breathing, or went into some sort of distress - it had to do with oxygen though because she knew what she was doing and was able to hook him up to the appropriate stuff (for lack of a better term) before the staff arrived after they paged them in. Thank God she was there - who knows what would've happened.

A friend told me that they forgot to write down her baby's measurements at birth, so she has no idea how long and how much he weighed.

For me, the only issue was a catheter that a nurse struggled to insert. She had to call in a more experienced nurse, because I was so swollen after 4 hrs of pushing. I also had to have a second nurse come and verify how dilated I was because at 100% effaced when admits was really hard for them to tell how far dilated I was - 0.5 cm, which is somewhat unusual, so it was something the less experienced nurse hadn't felt before. But no mistakes, per se. I had a very positive birth experience.

I didn't experience any mistakes (that I know of!) but a friend of mine had a stitch through her bowel that they had to correct when they were sewing her up post-c-section.

I had a nurse come in after delivery and insist on giving me my rhogram shot when I didn't need one!

I went in at 38 weeks for delivery and hadnt yet gotten my GBS results.... the Triage nurse mixed up my chart with someone else when I asked them to check the results, even though my doctor confirmed i was Negative all day long the nurses kept trying to tell me I was positive

I wasn't aware of any mistakes during my L&D but I did ask what the time of birth was (this was like an hour or so later, after the excitement of LO breathing really weird and me needing an OB to come in to do my stitching) and the nurses/midwife looked at each other like "uhhh...." I think they kind of guessed at the exact time.

@Mrs.KMM: Baby wasn't stuck during delivery! She seriously fell out. My OB tugged on her while I wasn't pushing--I already pushed a few times so her head was out. She wasn't too large and she was my second 8 pound baby so I did it previously with no problems. I'm not a doctor obviously but my nurse who is now an NP shook her head and cringed...it didn't make feel like it was necessary. If she was large, if she was my first child, or if they communicated that she was stuck then shoulder dystocia would have made sense.

I had one really terrible nurse and of course she was there for the most important part. All of the other nurses were angels and helped me so much. This nurse told me I was 9 centimeters dilated and it was almost time for the baby, a short time later I was 6...she had gotten it wrong the previous time! Then she couldn't insert the catheter it was like torture. I had a surgery complication after my c section but as far as I know that wasn't due to a mistake.

I had to get my epidural twice - the anesthetist put the needle in the first time, then turned around to get his tape to tape everything in place and still had the needle in his hand (he'd pulled it back out.) When he said, "This has never happened to me before," I laughed because I thought he was joking.

Must.stop.reading.this.thread - its contributing to my general fear of hospitals/doctors/childbirth. I wish I was brave enough to have baby at home!

@ms.line: I SO wish we had birthing centres here! I feel like that would be the right place for me. There is talk of one being built here in 2017...

Yikes! It's nothing compared to these, but when they sent out my GBS test, the sample got frozen. At my next appointment, they took a new sample but I went into labor that night so we had no idea what my status was. They sent another sample to the hospital lab and apparently got the result (negative) back quickly enough that I didn't need an IV, but I had no idea what it was until after DD had been born and they were like, "oh, by the way..." No biggie in the long run, but at the time I was worried!
