I made a chalkboard poster for LO's 1st birthday and when I picked it up this morning it has a giant white border around the whole thing. I don't think cutting it with my paper cutter or knife will yield a clean edge since it is on thick cardboard. I had it done at Costco and they wouldn't cut it for me either and they said they can't avoid the border.
What should I do!? Photoshoot is tomorrow! Should I try to find a frame today or leave it Or...? Any suggestions?

I'd get a few pieces of wood and makeshift/glue a frame. Think long, thin ruler-like pieces. Those should be easy to cut.

If you draw a thin diagonal line from the corner of the artwork to the corner of the cardboard, it will look more like a frame. Or paint the border brown like a wood frame. Or cut it and tape the edges with black electrical tape or a cool style of duct tape (which you can find at a craft or hardware store).
For the future (or anyone else who is reading this), the border is caused because printers cannot print all the way to the edge of the paper (no matter what size printer you're using). So when you need something that is 8.5x11 to have ink coverage all the way to the edges, you actually have to print it on a larger size paper and cut it down.

Agree with others that it doesn't look bad at all! If it really bothers you I would get an xacto knife and a couple of extra blades, and use a metal straight edge to cut it off. Once the knife starts dulling (depending on the cardboard), change the blade. But since I can't really feel the material, this may not work as well as you want it to, or your blade could slip.

I think it would look strange with no border at all - I would add a thin frame as PPs suggested if it really bugs you

Thanks everyone! I ended finding a cheapie frame at the grocery/everything store and while it doesn't cover the entire white edge I think it looks better!
@Smurfette: it's called a poster board print and for 16x20, it was $15! I thought that was reasonable.... And it was done in an hour! I'm attaching the rest of the price list.

Just as a follow up, the black frame on top with the white border ended up looking great in the photos!
