Our hospital calls it Nick-U so I have always known it as The NICU (nick-u).
But, I'm watching A Baby Story and they call it the N.I.C.U.
Mind blown.
My husband is here and has worked in numerous hospitals and says that he's heard both.

My friend was a nick-you nurse so I've always said it that way. NICU sounds like a spin off of NCIS or something.

This reminds me! When I went to see a lactation consultant, they sent me to the pediatric floor.
So, I was telling my mom, "they sent us to ped's" And I pronounced it "peeds". She was so confused. She was like, "what's a peeds?!" She got worried. I had to correct myself and say, "Mom, I meant the Pediatric Unit." Who calls it all that anymore? -

Hubby is a doctor and he calls it nick-u, so that's the way I pronounce it.

I called it Nee - Q before I was there. I always say NICU, but it is an abbreviation and I've heard it that way occasionally.

either one, they mean the same thing. NICU stands for neonatal intensive care unit, so you can spell it out or just stay "nick-u"
