I bought my nieces each a magazine subscription and want them to open something, not just have me say, " I got you a subscription". What would you do?

@travellingbee: can you print out the receipt and wrap that, with a photo of what it is? Or buy the current one and tape it to it? Or just get something small like a book that is semi related and include a note with it...

This won't help this year, but I usually start the subscription early enough so the first magazine arrived before Christmas (my friend wrapped it and put it under the Christmas tree for her daughters). Either the current copy, or a picture of magazine with a note.

@travellingbee: I get my mums husband a magazine subscription every year! I create my own little magazine cover that always features a hand drawn sketch of him and then some headlines that reference things that happened in his life the previous year. "Man, 58, retires from work at ______" "Grandad of the year welcomes 6th grandchild", etc, etc. Then I just wrap up the 'cover' as his gift and inside I write, please enjoy another year of MacLean's magazine! Love, _______
I'm sure the girls would like to see themselves on the cover of a magazine.

I always wrap the current issue.

Depends on the subscription? I got a friend's son a subscription to National Geographic Kids. So I bought the "National Geographic Little Kids First Big Book of Animals" and put the subscription printout in that.

I have always given the current issue if I'm giving a subscription. That way they have something to unwrap and it will tide them over until the first delivery.

I'm putting a subscription in DH's stocking, and I plan to print out the cover of the current issue and roll it up in a ribbon to stick it inside the stocking.
