I registered for a Beco Gemini carrier, but am wondering if I should also register for a k'tan wrap or a sling for when baby boy is a newborn? The Gemini says it's good for babies from 7 pounds, and it has a head support, but I just wonder if I will want something softer and more comfortable (for both of us).

My friend is giving me a moby but if I wasn't getting one for free I think I would have registered for one. Mostly for use around the home when baby is fussy but I need to get things done. I think a soft carrier will be much more comfortable in situations like that.

I had a k'tan but couldn't really understand it (I didn't take much time, to be honest) but my husband also wanted to be able to hold her and we are not the same size.
I sold that and bought an ergo and infant insert, so I/we plan to use that. I remember reading a HB user on here made her own moby wrap for cheap from fabric at the store, but can't remember who it was!

I don't the Beco, but I own the Moby, Baby Bjorn, Sakura Bloom sling, and Ergo. Yeah..lots of carriers.
The Ergo (which seems similar to the Beco) is my favorite for running errands. It's super comfy. But it's big and not easy to sit in. It's also too big for my to do household chores with.
The moby was awesome for the first 3 months for household chores and lounging around. My son goes to work with me and it was great for that, as well. I can sit comfortably with him in it. We don't use it very much now, at 4.5 months. He just got heavy in it, and while it's still comfy for me, he doesn't love how tight it has to be to keep it from falling down.
We used the Bjorn rarely because I don't find it as comfortable for myself as the others. But he likes it better now, because he wants to forward-face and it's the most comfortable for him to do that in. The Ergo is kind of awkward for forward-facing right now because he still can't sit up.
The ring sling we barely use, but I think that once he can sit well and like to be on my hip more, it'll get more action. He hates being confined tightly and the only way to carry him in it now is cross legged, which he hates.

We have a Sakura Bloom Ring Sling as well, but we used and still use it constantly. Almost daily up until she was 6 months old, now when we are out and about and dont want to bring the stroller, I carry her in that on my hip when shes tired of walking
We had a Moby Air Carrier and HATED it. Well I hated it. DH wore it and didnt mind it, but Liv was not a fan of hanging by her crotch area.
We also have a backpack, but its a heavy duty one for hiking, so I think she would like a lighter one too
I had a Moby, but it stayed unused bc we loved the Sakura Bloom so much.

@MSLIPGLOSS I would love to hear how your Beco Gemini works out. I bought a Beco Butterfly 2 when it was on gilt and I had an additional coupon. It was such a good deal, but when I showed DH (he is super into the idea of carriers) he was so upset that the baby can never face out. Now I am wondering if I should just sell the Butterfly 2 and buy a Gemini before the baby gets here or wait?

I had a peapod wrap and hated it. It was hard to get tight enough, so she would end up lower than I liked a lot, and I hated going for walks because her legs hung straight down so she would push against my quads when I was walking. Super annoying. And don't get me started on trying to wrap that thing in a dusty parking lot without dragging it on the ground...
It wasn't for me, love my ergo!

I think it depends on both the person and the baby. I have the Ergo Sport, the Moby, and the Baby Bjorn, and we've used all of them for different purposes/stages. Personally, I do like the Moby better for the newborn stage, and I didn't feel like it was difficult to use. My babies also loved it.
If you don't want to spend the money, there are a bunch of DIY YouTube videos on how to make a wrap carrier. Even some no-sew ones, if you're not crafty (like me!).

someone bought us a k'tan for our upcoming shower, my aunt from korea sent us a podaegi, and we are also registered for the ergo for when he gets bigger!

@sorrycharlie: I've posted before about a friend of mine who made her own Moby. I just messaged her and asked if she's consider writing up a blog post about how to do it and then I'd link to her site. With DD I just had a Moby and then Ergo. The Moby was a shower gift so we used it for the first 2-3 months but then bought an Ergo (w/infant insert) when we knew DD liked being carried. I can't see using the Moby with a bigger baby/toddler.
Since the Moby is just a long piece of jersey/knit material there are some great tutorials on how to make your own with fabric from the craft store; might be a good idea given the cost.I have expanded my carrier stash and now have 2 of each pouch and ring slings which we will likely use with LO#2 once they arrive (hopefully very soon).
@Bree72: please check your Ergo's instructions because mine say that it is not designed to be worn with baby facing forward on the front.

I preferred the ring sling when LO was teeny tiny. It was super easy to use, and we can use it longer than any stretchy wrap.
@1000tulip: I have the Butterfly II as well, and I LOVE it! Even if we had the option to use it forward facing, I don't know if we would use it. Forward facing is not as comfy for the wearer, and my LO needs to be able to turn her face into my chest when she gets overwhelmed.

@purrpletulips: I don't actually mean forward facing...I meant on the hip. Its like crossbody but the baby isn't up against your chest. Should have clarified.

@Bree72: ok, I'm a little sensitive to people putting their baby in the Ergo FF on front (like many Bjorn can be worn) because I've seen it done several times and the baby always looks miserable. One of the reasons I bought a pouch sling was because I just found the hip carry with the Ergo too cumbersome.

I have a sling-wrap hybrid (blue celery) and an Ergo, and the Ergo is only becoming useful now that LO is 4 months and 16 pounds. I borrowed the 'infant insert' from a friend, but we much preferred the wrap....so snuggly and soft and comfy....not to mention easy to carry in your purse!

I registered for a Boba (after reading the comparisons here: http://www.theportablebaby.com/carrierfeatures.html) and a Sleepy Wrap (after reading reviews for pretty much everything on Amazon). The Boba seems like the best bet all-around but I wanted the wrap for doing stuff around the house, I thought it might be easier than a structured carrier.

I love the Baby K'tan for the infant stage and so did our little girl. It really gives you the same effect as the Moby but without the learning curve that comes from needing to master the wraps. We temporarily tried the Bjorn and hated it- it got returned immediately. Our next planned purchase is the Ergo. My only recommendation with the K'tan is to get sized if there is a boutique retailer in your area that offers it- there sizing can be difficult to be sure on without some guidance. Cheers!

We only have ergos with infant inserts and have used since the babes were new. I like how secure they are and how simple it is to take on and off.. They are great for us for both in and out of the house. I dont find it cumbersome at home, but maybe because im taller? The moby was too much work for me to learn.

Ergo is great when baby is older than 3 months. You can wear you baby on your back around the hours and have your arm and front free to so stuff

When I did a new baby care class at the hospital, the person running it said all of those carriers (ergo, bjorn, etc.) aren't good for babies under 3 months old because they put too much pressure on their developing pelvises. She recommend a wrap style carrier until 3 months. Our baby LOVED being in the Moby, and then a woven wrap I bought, and basically lived in it the first 3 months--it helped immensely with her acid reflux and colic, too.
