My lo had solids for the first time tonight, yay! She loved the part where she would open her mouth and food would go in.... but then she didn't understand how to swallow it so she spit it out.
Did your lo know how to eat, or did it take a lot of time and practice?

We've been giving LO bits of banana and butternut squash...She loves it! Or, she's learning to love it...She still has that "WTF" look on her face when there's food in her mouth. LOL.

I'd say it took him three days to get fully up to speed ... but after that, he has been finishing practically every bite!

The LO seemed to eat solids fine right away, which was cool. It took her a while longer to get into the next step, finger foods. She didn't want to pick stuff up for a while.

@artbee: She swollows half and smooshes half out. But I've been giving her, literally, just 2-3 baby spoonfuls and that's it. I'm just trying to get her to taste things. Her 6-month appt. is this Friday so after Friday we'll start to get serious.

aww. SO cute. Even 5 months after we introduced solids, LO isn't the best eater. She probably eats a total of 3-5 ounces/day.

Oh, and we haven't been doing it every day. Once Dr. gives the goahead, then I'll make it a daily thing. I've got BNsquash, pear, and sweet potato pureed and frozen in the freezer just waiting to be eaten!

@artbee: that must be a good sign! no, my LO didn't want to grab anything for a while. but once she did, she was done with purees. that was a pretty short phase.

@chopsuey119: my doctor said babies don't need solids until they're one. We feed them for our own amusement and their nutrition is from formula and breastmilk.

@artbee: Yeah I heard that too! 
It used to stress me out (I used to try to force her to eat more). Now I just give her as much as she'll take. (usually 5-7 bites)

2) Child of Mine: Feeding with Love and Good Sense (by Ellyn Satter)
Both are really good.

Solids are ever evolving in my opinion. My son mastered being fed and swallowing in about a week at 5.5 months. Now he's self -feeding and that's a whole new set of challenges.

We started solids @ 6 months and she was more than ready to chow down on just about anything we gave her. We did rice cereal for about 3 days before we started introducing her to other purees.

She started solids a month ago at Christmas and just this weekend really got the hang of it and started grabbing the spoon and opening her mouth!

He's 9 months old and we still struggle with it. Luckily he is actually starting to show interest in foods when we are eating and actually opens his little mouth like a little baby bird when we give him food now. We are working on him actually eating more at each sitting since at most he will eat about 2oz at a time.
