I found some cute rock n roll band onsies on Zulilly and was going to get a bunch of different sizes. Is there a point where onsies are not worn and regular shirts are worn and preferred?
Like 12, 18, 24 month onsies? I don't want to buy a 24 month onsie and find it not practical to wear at that age/size.

We didn't do many onesies after 12 months size. We could have I guess since LO was still in diapers but I liked the look of a shirt and bottom better once she was walking.

DS wore them until they stopped making them at 24 months. Mostly as under shirts by that point, but the odd time as his actual shirt. I love onesies because they don't ride up and expose bellies/backs to the cold. I will be sad this winter when I can't layer white onesies under his clothes anymore!

We recently resumed using onesies for my almost 17mo to prevent him from shoving his hand down his diaper. (I don't care if he wants to touch his penis, but he inadvertently redirects it to point up which results in him soaking his pants.

I used them both winters as an undershirt. I have a set of 24 mo that I will use this winter, but that might be the end. It's easier to check for poop without onesies on.

We did until about 18 months? Then it was summer, and we were starting with trying to use the potty, so they became a pain.

DS was small and I get our last pack right around his second birthday (size 18m) to use through the winter as an undershirt but right after his second birthday we potty trained. all winter they we mostly unsnapped because it was annoying trying to unsnap them with a toddler trying to hold his bladder.

We stopped putting him in onesies around 12 months. But we live in a really temperate climate. I know some people will use them as undershirts like PPs mentioned. We bought some size 12mo ones that are still in his drawer but I don't think they were ever even worn!

DD still has some 18-month ones she'll probably fit into for awhile longer (she's on the short side) but I don't plan to buy more. Regular shirts seem more comfortable now that it's summer, and she's getting interested in the potty so hopefully that will continue. Plus, I like being able to peek down the back of her diaper to see if she's pooed without the whole production of getting her pants off and onesie undone.

We used them up to sz 24mo as well and I agree with others who liked them BC they don't ride up and expose their bellies. We stopped at 24months when we started potty training. It made me really sad when he stopped wearing onesies BC it was truly a reminder that he was no longer a "baby" 
For those looking to use as undershirts, I find that tucked in A-shirts for boys and Camis for girls work just as well.

Miss A wore onesies until about two years old but she was a spring baby so we kept her in onesies through winter. My little guy is an April baby (autumn / winter in NZ) so I imagine he'll be out of onesies by summer when he's 18-20 months old.

From what I understand they make potty training harder so personally I'm not buying them for over 18mo. If I need them later than that, then I'll buy them when the need arises.

@bluestriped bee: Nah, I didn't mind. I found it took the same amount of time to do a diaper. You get pretty quick at it after doing that many haha.

We had a few 18 month onesies but she was in those well before 18 months. I think I bought a couple 24 month onesies at 18 months old when she was taking off her diaper at night. That was about it.

I am different than other responses! Once it became summer, my 99 percentile 7 m boy was in all onesies all the time. Then because of his body shape he started getting horrible chafing! Like diaper rash but it would be only during the day, when he was rolling around scooting and being crazy. This happened with both cloth and disposable diapers and much worse with onesies. Now I just do t shirts and diapers, occasionally little loose shorts. I love the onesie look too! So basically I think I would have kept him in them much longer cause t shirts are cute but they ride up all day! He looks so grown up in them too.

My first wore them up until 24m, my second we've been too lazy to bother with them past 12m. We started potty training at 3, so he was already well into shirt/pants by then. At 3 he also decided he preferred "shirt/pants" pj's too instead of the footed pj's.

My 19mo DS wears a onesie under his sleep sack, and I think he will do until I can't get one to fit him anymore. But he hasn't worn them during the day since before 12 months.

We stopped at 12 months. I hated the snaps at changes. Shirts were way easier and she was walking so it was fine.

The last pack of onesies I bought was in 18 months. However, if she's still in 24 months when the snow flies, I might pick up a few more- keep her belly and back warm in the winter!

I love onesies. Sadly we only have a couple in 24 month size so he doesn't wear them much any more.
DS is 28 months and when it is hot and we are home this is what he will choose to wear.

We still use them as a shirt at 16 months. Onesies and shorts are the easiest thing for her. Shirts just rise up over her Buddha belly

At around 18 months we stopped. It was winter and I liked his belly not exposed in winter and other shirts rode up.

DD is 20 mos and it's hot here so she wears them around the house, we don't snap them though b/c they are too tight (long torso). I won't buy anymore. The ones we have are 18 mos

I have a big 20 month old boy and I still like putting him in his 24 month onesies. They're a little tight but look comfortable enough. He mostly wears stuff like this around the house so I wouldn't spend much on onesies in the larger sizes.

Are they going to daycare? If so, I would avoid too many onesies, the daycare providers were so lazy about snapping the onesies and DS looked disheveled.

I personally love onesies. My DS only wore them until 16 months because he was huge and I couldn't find anymore to fit. DD is 20 months and will be in onesies for as long as they fit her or until we start potty training.

DS is 14 months and now that he's walking, most days now I put him in a tshirt and pants/shorts or a romper. He still wears onesies occasionally and I may start putting him in them again in the winter as an extra layer to keep him warm.

I stopped putting DD in onesies during the day by around 12 months (just switched to t-shirts) but she still wears them at to bed now at 22 months. They keep her diaper in place at night (she has a tendency to try to pull them off).

We stopped at 12 months. I bought some larger sizes thinking of using them as undershirts to keep him warm in the winter. I just layered/bundled him up and it worked fine.
DH wasn't a fan of snaps during diaper changes. I didn't think they were a problem.

I love them for winter as an under layer until kids are potty trained - even while my (then) 2.5 year old was potty training this winter, she wore them unbuttoned but tucked into her pants. They kept her back/belly from getting exposed while playing outside better than a regular shirt did since they stayed in/down.
I'm not sure I'd buy 18 or 24 month onesies and expect to use them as outerwear, particularly considering your babies are likely to be on the smaller side since they are twins. My five and a half pounder (at birth) didn't wear 24 months onesies until her third winter (she was 2.5)...at that point they'd have been too babyish looking as shirts, IMO, unless they were the gap two- layer "body double" style or something similar.
