For those of you that cloth diaper how many diapers do you have?
I am torn between getting 18 or 24. I know it will be easier if I have more but it just feels like a lot of money initially. How many did you find to be the ideal number of diapers?

I have lots of prefolds and probably 10 one size pockets.
For one sizes look for good sales and buy seconds, most of mine I got for about $10

I have 27 and it seems like I need more. Right now, you can find a lot of sales to stock up on.
I loved being pregnant in the summer (maxi dresses!) but now I see the positive of being pregnant in winter-sales around Christmas!

I am planning on having around 30. I have read that the optimal amount to wash is 24, and of course you will need to diaper the kid while the other diapers are in the wash. Plus it will give me 2-3 days between loads in the newborn phase where they go through a lot of diapers.

I heard 24-30 for newborns and for older babies 18-24 is a good number.
There is a website that rents newborn CDs. I'm definitely going to consider going that route.

I have around 34. You can buy used diapers on diaperswappers.com, or there are lots of sales this time of year!

We have about 45 one size diapers for daytime use and 4 diapers for nighttime use. Though we don't use all 45 before doing laundry it puts a little less wear on them being worn and washed more than twice a week.
ETA: And we rented for the newborn phase from Diaper Daisy and I would totally do it again if we had a second baby.

I just wanted to say that this us super cool and I am jealous. So since being on here and TTC this coming year I was all onbaord with wanting to use CD, been doing research and what not. Found out where we will be using childcare we CANT use CD unless we have a "medical" reason that we have to. Not cool! Really bummed!

We have 30 one size all in one's.
For us its a good number. I do a wash every other day and don't have to worry about running out if she has more poo's than usual or something.

@tana_bk: You can absolutely get by with 18, you will just have to do laundry more often. The only reason I have 34 is that I don't want to do laundry every day.

We have about 42. I didn't want to worry about feeling stressed to get them washed and stuffed before I ran out. It also extends the life of them because now they'll be washed less often = less wear and tear.

You can also always start out with less and buy more later if you feel like you need more.

Thanks for all the responses. The diapers we want to use cant be bought used because they are only being released this month! They are the new Freetime one size all in ones from Bum Genius with semi detached inserts. Also DH is not a fan of used items for the baby. I think we will start with 24 and go from there.

We have 21 pockets and it works for us. We do laundry every night to make sure we always have some clean ones. I know pretty much everyone buys more, but we haven't needed them.

@Mrsbells: Neat, you'll have to tell us how you like the diapers! I have the AIO, OS from Bum Genius. I love them but they do take forever to dry, so I'm sure the new ones will be much better!

Right now we have 18, and it definitely doesn't feel like enough. I'm about to order 6 more.

we are still TTC, but I've been slowly buying based on sales.
We have 3 GroVia shells and a package of biosoakers (I don't plan on this being our main diaper but maybe a travel or babysitting diaper).
We also have 3 used BumGenius 3.0, and 3 new BumGenius 4.0.
One Kawaii pocket.
I have a feeling we'll be sticking with pockets generally..I'm not sure I want to tackle prefolds and covers, but we'll see.
I'd like to get 1-2 FuzziBunz for the first couple weeks, I hear they are better for newborns. But our families both have GIANT babies, so I don't think they'll go that far.
