I SAH but my husband always takes lots of time in December, which is nice. He was off all last week because his mom was here with us for 10 days celebrating the holidays. And he'll have off all next week and the week after until Friday.

I guess since I'm a mom, I get the whole month off? But I run an online business and feel like I never get time off there. I try to take time off but get to deal with emails at all times of the day.

I'll be off 12/24-1/2; the university I work for is closing for a winter break for the first time which is nice because I only have to use one day vacation.

My workplace is closed Dec 25-26 and Jan 1-2. I'm also taking off the 24th. I haven't worked here long so I don't have many vacation days! And honestly, I kind of like working when the office is dead--I get so much done (plus all my personal stuff too, hehe).

I have Dec 24-Jan 4th off. DH took all his remaining days off for the year, so he has Dec. 20-Jan 4th.

I have from December 22 - January 2 off. I used holiday time for most of it.
I also have tomorrow off and leave early Friday.

Dec. 24 through Jan. 1 are paid holidays for us, but I might use some vacation time to make it a full two weeks off.

Just Christmas Eve for me (I work in Emergency Services) as it just happens to already be one of my weekly days off. DH is a teacher so 2 weeks!

@MediaNaranja: me too. I'm way more productive with a quiet office versus a busy one.

My company is shut down from Christmas to New Years. But I'll be on vacation from Dec 24 to Jan 12 and using only 3 vacation days. I'll be house & dog sitting while my sister and her family is out of the country. I'm excited that we don't have to pay for hotels or car rental since I get to use her house and cars.

I'm a teacher so December 24-January 2. DH only gets Christmas Eve and Christmas Day this year, because he just started a new job. He needs to work the Friday after Christmas so we have to drive home on Christmas night from my parents' house (about 3.5 hours away!)

I SAH, but my husband gets zero time off. He works Christmas Eve, Christmas day, NYE, and New Year's Day. It's the pits.

@photojane: dude, that sucks! Why does he have to work them all?
cantaloupe / 6164 posts
@Smurfette: he works for the department of transportation and the interstates don't shut down for the holidays, so he has to be there. He runs the control room, and the control room operates 24/7 365. 9-5 Christmas Eve, 1:30-9:30 Christmas day. I hate it.

@photojane: That stinks! He shouldn't have to work both? Will he get them off next year?
cantaloupe / 6164 posts
@Smurfette: nope! Unless a holiday falls on his regular days off, Friday or Saturday, he doesn't get it. He was supposed to work Thanksgiving too, but he managed to get off last minute. I'm just glad my parents live nearby... at least Sadie and I won't be alone!

@photojane: That sucks big time! I am so sorry! At least he will be home in the morning on Christmas to see her get the kitchen.
My brother is an Fire/EMT so he has to work the holidays every three years with the rotation, but at least he gets some off. At least Christmas is on a Friday next year!

My work is actually closed with holiday pay on Xmas eve, Xmas day, and New Years. I took off all the days in between. I've asked for it off a few years in the past, but this is the first time there was enough coverage to get it approved.

@Smurfette: yes, so glad he will be here for Christmas morning! It will be Sadie's first real Christmas... she will actually be excited and have opinions this year. So glad he gets to experience it!

I combined vac time with the extreme generosity of my amazing employer and yesterday was my last day until Jan 5th. We are currently en route to Disney for a few days!!!

I am off half a day Christmas eve and Christmas Day. I work in healthcare so my days off are what I ask for, we never close. I am banking my PAL for future LO #2's maternity leave so I'm not even taking off New Years day this year.

December 22 - January 2th (not including weekends) Technically, I don't have to work from December 20- January 4th.
