I've been taking DS1 every 6 months since he turned 3. DS2 had his first visit at 2 but barely let the dentist look in his mouth. I'm thinking he doesn't need to have a visit until 3...but maybe I should suck up the cost and take him with his brother so that he gets used to it? We don't have dental insurance, FWIW!
How often do you take your kids to the dentist?

I take my girls ever 6 months for routine check ups. My dd is 2, and they just do a quick clean and check out her teeth.

Every 6 months. DS #1 is on my dental insurance. DS #2 will go on our dental insurance when he turns 3 and will go every 6 months.
Our dentist's office sends us cute notes and pictures when he's on the no cavity board at their office.

I took her for the first time at 18 months. It was a disaster and she hated it We have another appointment in two months (she'll be 25 months) and I think it is going to be a repeat disaster. She's going to hate it and I'm going to lose a year off my life

We plan on taking DD for her first visit when she turns 3 and then going every six months. DH and I both have dentist appointments this summer and we are going to bring her with us so she gets an idea of what to expect. Our dentist said DD can sit at the chair and look at the tools when she goes with us.

We have dental insurance, so I just schedule and bring my DD with me to all of my appts every 6 months since she was 1 year old.

We have dental insurance, so he's gone every 6 months since 18 months. Although our insurance only covers 1 fluoride treatment a year, so we have to pay for the second out of pocket. That's annoying because it's recommended for kids every 6 months, but insurance hasn't updated their coverage. He likes the dentist and hasn't had an issue with opening his mouth for them/x-rays/etc. If I had to pay out of pocket and my kid didn't cooperate I might think about waiting until 3 too.

DS1 is 32 months and we haven't taken him get to the dentist. He has the fluoride treatments done at his wellness appointments. I am planning to take him to the dentist sometime after he turns 3 before he turns 4.

DS just turned 3 and he's going for the first time next week. Then probably every 6 months or so. We have coverage.

My dentist told me I didn't need to start bringing my daughter until she turned 3. So I'll start then and she'll go every 6 months.

I took DD1 for her first visit at 2.5, but her next visit may be closer to 10 months-1 year from then depending on whether we can add her to our dental insurance when DD2 is born this summer. I'm not concerned about it - we're pretty careful with her dental hygiene and she doesn't eat a lot of sugar.

DS is 4.5 and we have gone every 6 months since age 2 (big mistake starting before 3). I'm going to start taking DD every 6 months at age 3.

DD1 didn't go for the first time until she was 3.5. DD2 started going just before 2, only because I was already taking DD1 and figured I might as well. But I wouldn't go out of my way to take her, and definitely not pay for it (our Dental is Family, so whether we have 1 or a billion kids on it, they are all covered).
DH's dad is a dentist and says anything before 3 is unnecessary. But that you can feel free to take them before them if you really want to and/or want to get them used to it. He just knows that before 3, it's a total crapshoot as to what you'll actually get to do for them!

I didn't take my son until he was about 3, I messed up in not adding him to our insurance plan. Now we take him twice a year and he absolutely hates it.

We were told every 6 months after they start sprouting teeth by our pediatric dentist. We didn't actually do the first visit until he was about 18 months but we've been going every 6 months since.

Every six months to our awesome local pediatric dentist. They work really hard to make sure the kids have a good experience and aren't afraid. We have insurance so it's covered.

Every six months since 15 months. We have dental insurance and take him to a pediatric dentist. I had a terrible experience as a child and I want my kids to not be afraid of the dentist. Before three they didn't even attempt a cleaning, just a quick look in the mouth and sitting/playing in the chair to get used to it.

twice a year. They actually did a cleaning on my 1.5 year old last time, and she was fine with it. It was a quicker cleaning, but they said she had some plaque buildup and wanted to get it off.

My older one was a huge difference between her first visit at nearly 2.5 and then at 3. First time awful, by 3 she had fun! I would wait until 3 if we didn't have insurance. My second has no problem going but I probably wouldn't have taken him early (18m) if it wasn't covered and I wasn't already going.

Every 6 months. We do have insurance. The dentist still doesn't do MUCH, but I feel like getting them used to it is worth it. Especially if they inherited my bad teeth genes.

We started at age 3 and bring him every 6 months. Cleaning and the doctor check up are two different appointments at our dentist's so I always bring LO when I have my appointment. He has been doing well and it helps that he's allowed to sit in my lap.
