@mrbee: We use an in home daycare and they are fairly lax. I notice all the fever calls come in around 4pm which could be due to wake ups from naps or nice because I get off work at 4:30. This week after LO's 2nd absence for illness they offered to watch him in a separate room since they knew it was a hard week for us (I started a new job). It is very nice when you have the sick kid but I do wonder if they would get sick less often if they were more strict. Honestly, I doubt it.

The fever cut-off is 100.5, and they add a degree to all underarm temps. She also can't come back until she's been fever-free for 24 hours. It's only annoying when she is feverish because she is teething. There are some that are more strict that I looked at where your kid cannot come if they are excessively snotty. That seems a bit ridiculous because H has a runny nose most of the winter, so she would be out a lot.

Practical/balanced. They call for a true clinical fever (100.4+), vomiting, diarrhea (3 or more really loose stools). The written policy is home for additional 24 hrs after symptom free, but they let us be very magical in counting hours so long as LO is clearly well again when he goes back.

Ours is pretty much the same as @avivoca:. I appreciate it, but not sure how much good it really does since so many illnesses are contagious before the high fever hits.

I can't recite the policy, but kids have to be symptom free for 24 hours if they were sent home. If you are called to pick up your child you must do so within the hour. Last week we were all notified a stomach bug is going around.
