DD has always slept in her own room w/ no problem,and even dud when we stayed at our in-laws for a month while waiting to close on our house. But for some reason, she's waking several times a night, wanting us to lay down w/ her until she falls back asleep. Sometimes we sit w/ her and sometimes we leave as soon as she's back down. But this is getting ridiculous (she's waking as much as DD2) and we are exhausted!
Any thoughts?

Could it be the new house and she needs an adjustment period? Is her door closed or opened?

I think @MrBee had a post on this issue at one point. If I recall correctly, they put a lock on the door for a short period and that seemed to get Charlie out of the habit.

@BabyBoecksMom: did this just start once in the new house? Did it start once the baby was born?
Could she be hungry?
Not sure how old she is but have you asked her why she is waking up so much? Is she scared?

@Mamaof2: She's 2.5. I think part of it is that she's pushing boundaries. It only started when we got into the new house (it didn't bother her when we moved to my in-laws, so I thought that was weird). She's been fine w/ the baby. I ask her why she gets out of bed, and she clams up like she doesn't want to tell us.

@BabyBoecksMom: we have one of those toddler alarm clocks that turns green at an appointed time. We got it in April I think and she now has learned that she doesn't come out of her room until her light turns green. It has worked like a charm! We weren't dealing so much with motn wake ups but just really early mornings. I agree it might be the transition to the new house but the clock might help?

What really helped us was when we finally decided to leave the door open. We also do stay with her for a little bit, and prompt her in advance to set her up with proper expectations, "We'll only stay for 5 more minutes, and then you have to go to sleep. No crying, no yelling... ok?"

We tried the baby gate, but she just learned to climb over it, now we put a child proof lock on the inside of the door and close it so she can't get out. I hate doing it, but otherwise she was getting out of her room multiple times a night and wondering around the house/into our room.

We also have a baby gate in our son's doorway. He's still in a crib, but I have it there as a secondary safety precaution if he ever figures out how to climb out of his crib. The stairs are right outside his bedroom, so I would hate for him to stumble down the stairs in the dark if he ever became an escape artist! Then that allows us to keep his bedroom door open, so he doesn't feel trapped/closed in. He likes his door open when we put him to sleep at night.

@LuLu Mom: Did your LO cry when she couldn't get out?? I'm afraid of an epic meltdown if we lock her in.
@Mrs. High Heels: We do the same thing, and it has always worked, but for some reason it's not working for the MOTN wakeups.
Funny thing is, DH has to take care of her since I'm taking care of the baby, and he's finally getting a small dose of how it is to function on little-to-no sleep for the first time.

@BabyBoecksMom: We lay with her and read her stories, sing, and ect. and say "now it's time to sleep." We can hear her messing with the door right when we close it, but she usually gives up after a minute or two and goes back into bed. Sometimes I'll open the door before we go to bed (3 hours after her) since she's out.

@BabyBoecksMom: I wouldn't feel comfortable locking our kids in their rooms. What if there's a fire? Are all the furniture secured to the wall? I wouldn't put it past Chloe to climb her dresser to unlock the door, and there be a huge catastrophe. I can't even think about it without getting upset.
I would identify the problem since this seems to be new behavior. It very well could be her adjusting to a new home!
We stay with Chloe for a few minutes after tucking her in. Sometimes she asks us to leave! Other times she will be come out of her room, but there's always a good reason. Sometimes it's monsters, sometimes she needs water, sometimes she needs extra snuggles and reassurance.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Good points about the furniture - she would definitely try to climb them! I think she just really enjoys having the freedom to come out of her room. She's always been super independent and strong willed. If she comes out when we're still up, she just smiles and thinks it's hilarious... even when we get mad.

@BandDmommy: our clock has been a lifesaver the last six months. We take it on vacation and to grandma's house and it works great! We just recently have had a few mornings where she comes into our room to report that her light is not turning green (because it is too early) but we have been able to get her back to bed.
I think for LO it helps her have that sense of predictability and consistency that toddlers need but I don't know if it works for all kids.

We use a doorknob cover on all the doors in R's room. She doesn't have any furniture in there because we didn't have it bolted. Her dresser is in her locked closet. We chose the knob covers since she randomly started getting out and wandering into our room/the bathroom/near the stairs. At the beginning she cried a lot. It has been a couple of months and when she is fighting bed she'll rattle the knob so we haven't removed them yet. Good luck!@SleepyMonkey:

@SleepyMonkey: Honestly, we were able to use a version of the tactic that Mrs. Jump Rope talked about in her blog: http://www.hellobee.com/2014/08/29/getting-our-toddler-to-go-to-sleep/
We cut the picture in 1/2 at first, and we went to McDonalds for breakfast if she stayed in her bed both nights. It worked like magic. Then, the next week, we cut the picture into 4 pieces and did something special on Saturday. Now, we just draw 5 boxes on a piece of paper and she gets to draw an "X" through the box each night that she stays in her bed.
