1. Family comes first.
My dad had a quite successful career, but he still showed up to every ballet recital, every soccer game, every big test, etc. He just always showed up and we knew we were his first priority.

2. Make me believe everything will be ok.
I'm a pretty anxious person and I often jump to worst case scenario so I regularly need to be talked off a ledge. When my dad says that everything is going to be fine, I believe him.

This is a good reminder why I don’t have contact with my father. All he taught me was how to constantly walk on eggshells and feel unsafe in my own home.

Sorry to be depressing but if you have a great Dad, give him an extra squeeze.

@youboots: Yeah I'm with you on having a less than stellar father. He definitely taught me lessons by what I SHOULDN'T do.

1. Take care of your health, especially your mental health and addictions. My father has had unmanaged depression and addiction issues as far as I can remember. He's destroyed his health, bankrupted his family, and gambled and smoked his money away while we all suffered because he never fixed any of his personal issues.

2. Make yourself the victim in any situation and find someone or something else to blame. No personal responsibility whatsoever, but the first person to jump and criticize.

My husband is basically the polar opposite of everything my dad is and I'm truly so, so grateful my boys have an excellent example for a father.

1. You taught me you could do anything you wanted if you put your mind to it and worked for it.

2. know what I'm thinking just my looking at me....

I miss my dad He passed away when I was 19.

For me, I'd be taking the second question in a humorous direction, but that may be reflective of my relationship with my dad, who is not an emotionally demonstrative person at all.

My family has inside jokes about a lot of things (duct tape being one) and I see this prompt as the perfect opportunity to remind him of the laughs we've shared over the years.

1. Humor can be used in just about every situation or hard work and commitment to doing something right leads to success.

2. Effectively tune out the 4 women in your life like we aren't even talking (it's an inside joke -after raising 3 girls, he can actually physically be in the same room and not hear our discussion unless we address him...it's impressive, he said he had to or he wouldn't have survived us as teenagers...ha!)
