Not sure if this is more appropriate here or in infertility, but it seems like there are more people here so we will try this.

I have two options for next cycle, our first with outside interventions. I'm a bit torn between the two and I'd love some opinions and advice.

Plan 1: Bloodwork on day 2 or 3 to check AMH and FSH. Clomid days 3-7. Ultrasound to check uterine lining and also look for fibroids, cysts, etc. IUI with known donor sperm. Of this, the ultrasound will be the only thing covered by insurance because it can be billed as diagnostic because of my severe cramps. Total bill will be around $500 I think.

Plan 2: all of the above, plus an HSG before the IUI. HSG not covered at all, so total bill will be more like $1300.

I've been leaning towards option 1, with the plan that if it doesn't work the first time, I can always do an HSG the cycle after. However, I have a few nagging reasons for considering the HSG now. First, I'm impatient. Partly because we all are when ttc, and partly because I'm not sure how long our donor will continue to be as generous as he has been. Second, I keep hearing anecdotal evidence that it can improve your chances, and at this point I'm all for improving my chances!

What do you all think? Obviously my only reason not to do the HSG is financial. We don't have a ton of money, but we are responsible and good about saving what we can. My grandparents are also willing to help, so it could be done if needed but I'm a little hesitant to ask them for more money than is absolutely necessary.
