We live quite a ways from our families. My in laws would like to meet us at my husband's grandfather's house which is 4 hours from us. The grandfather hasn't met our 7 month old, he is around 80.

The problem: my dh and his mom think this is a lovely idea for a day trip. So it is 8 hours driving, then factor in a 7 month old busy, crawling boob monster who frequently cries and screams so hard in the car that she vomits. My dh rarely witnesses these episodes because I basically refuse to go anywhere unless we can time it perfectly with her naps. When he does he gets so incredibly agitated that I am actually worried about his ability to drive safely.

I absolutely get that it's important for her to meet her great grandfather. I don't think a day trip is the way to do it. Originally we had talked about doing a weekend later in the summer so we could have spread the driving over three days. Now his mom would like to be there but no one else sees the need to stay overnight.

Thoughts? Suggestions on how to calmly word my side of the argument because I finally told him he could take the baby and I will stay here (which I am actually not OK with either so it was a stupid thing to say.)
