Hmm. My epidural wore off, twice, but he was posterior and that doesn't seem to be an uncommon occurrence (for it to stop working). But that was really the only side effect, besides allowing me to relax and dilate at a steady rate (which I hadn't really been).

There were some other issues with him at the very end (erratic heartbeat), and my BP and heartbeat were wildly fluctuating as well, but it was after I had been pushing for 2 hours, and I don't think had anything to do with the epidural, nor did any of my other complications.

I wound up with a c-section but it had nothing to do with the epidural. My anatomy + her head just didn't match!

My water broke without having contractions (at 38 weeks) so in order to get them started i had to be put on pitocin. I did fine for awhile but once my water really broke (it had been a trickle) the contractions were so hard and coming so fast that i couldn't catch my breath, i was hyperventilating and my hands and feet were going numb. Once the epi was done i was able to breath and relax and with in 2 hours i progressed from 6cm to 10cm. I could still feel the pressure of each contraction just not the pain. I had no issues with the administration or removal of the epi.

I wound up with a c section but it wasn't because of the epidural. I wasn't progressing due to my induction. I actually progressed faster after the epi, but eventually stalled.

The baby had issues but they weren't related to the epidural. Everything about the epidural was pretty seamless, insertion was no big deal, no complications during or after for me. My midwife said afterwards she thought the epidural was what finally allowed me to relax enough to dilate fully and push, after 30 hours of very slow progress.

I was very pro my whole experience with the epidural. The resident anesthesiologist was my absolute favorite person during labor.

My epidural only took on half of my body. I have scoliosis, so I knew it was a risk ahead of time.

I'm not sure if this had to do with the epidural or if it was just a build-up but right after I got it, I got incredibly tired and started to black out - my heart rate dropped rapidly and the nurses rushed in but I was completely fine after a minute or so.

It took away the contraction pain but I felt ALL of the pushing. So I'm really not sure if I would get one again or not.

I had two *very* easy epidural births.

No issues from the epidural. It was the best decision I made during my labor! I really feel like getting the epidural enabled me to actually enjoy the process.

Epidurals are heavenly. That is all.

Overall, it was totally fine. However, I got my epidural at 10 to try to avoid pushing to avoid a ruptured cervix. My contractions stopped completely for 10 hours. It was not at all expected and really frustrating.

Had a C-section after 3+ hours of pushing when the baby's heart-rate went down.

My epidural didn't work (posterior asynclitic postioned baby...apparently its common with posterior births) but it did not cause any additional issues.

My epidural was great. I didn't get it until 9-10cm, and they gave me a really low dose. I could still feel every contraction, just a lot less, but I could still tell my nurse when I needed to push. I felt a lot but only on the level of discomfort whereas prior to the epidural I was barely making it through each contraction and throwing up in pain.

I voted other, because although I did end up with a c-section it had nothing to do with my epidural - and after having actually experienced labor, unless next time goes much fast, I'll be getting another epidural. Hell, even if it does go faster...I'll still probably get the epidural, despite the fact that I was adamantly against them during my first pregnancy. Until you've been through it...you really just can't have any idea. Annoying, but true.

I was induced, requested an epidural after 11 hours.
My first one made my tongue go numb, so it never took.
They upped the medication, it still didn't work.
They tried to move it around in my spine to make it "hit right." Still no dice.
Because they had given me so much of the medication, they had to wait an hour before they could try again.
They tried again. It still didn't work.
It ended up being taken out entirely and I pushed with no epidural.

I have no idea why it wouldn't work. One of my nurses said that because my baby was posterior and I had back labor, epidurals sometimes don't "take care of" back labor. Who knows!

With my second, I went unmedicated.

I wasn't able to vote, cause my situation was weird last time.

I had my epidural after fetal demise had already happened earlier in the labor. I was on pitocin for so long after the demise, without progress, that the epidural was some very sweet relief after over 24 hours of labor. The doctors were able to up my pitocin without causing me anymore pain, and I progressed much faster at that point. It was a real blessing.

I voted for a tense moment or 2. I got it late in labor at 8 cm. They gave me too much and it dropped my BP too low and it started to affect LO. Everything was put on hold. I had to have other meds injected 3 times to up my BP and was on oxygen until it came back up (over an hour). But then I was ready to push and delivered fine with in 30 minutes. I couldnt feel anything so it made it hard to tell when to push, and my thigh was numb for about 6 months PP. Next time I think I will go without!

My first epidural attempt went in too far, and resulted in a spinal fluid leak, which caused horrific headaches for the next week, pp. I was checked into outpatient twice after going home, to receive corrective epidurals to patch it up.

However, the second epidural attempt (while in labor) went great, and had perfect, textbook effects. Baby was under zero stress, and I had a really easy, quick vaginal delivery. I've heard complications like mine are rare.
